60 series front breather hose assembly is a nice way to get an extended breather. OEM Hose, frame clip, breather and clamp all come as one part number all for about $28 each. They reach up just past the frame rail on a 40 which really is as high as most need.
But he’s a machinist. Why not spent 5 hours making one?

I bought these, but the front threads are different on my breather than come in the kit for a 78.
