Midnight mechanic checking in.
I bought the Vintage Air Condenser Kit to use with my vintage Clardy a/c system.
I do not like the Vintage Air kit for a few reason.
1. I do not want to modify the core support. The Vintage Air kit requires you to move the core support back as well as removing the horizontal cross brace.
2. The Vintage Air condenser covers the entire radiator. I do an not want to overheat my engine trying to keep myself cool in the cab.
3. The kit does not seal very well around the core support, the bracket holds the condenser farther away from the radiator than is necessary.
Vintage Air Condenser Kit:
The new plan this morning is to make my own condenser bracket for a smaller Nostalgic a/c 12x20 (sku: 44-1220) condenser that should not require me to modify the core support. My plan is going to be a less effective a/c system (smaller condenser). But, I should not need to modify the core support on a 79 or later FJ40. I am going to take advantage of the (4) stock 8m x 125 weld nuts on the forward face of the core support to hold my bracket. I should end up with a good seal around all 4 sides of the condenser forcing air thru it and onto the radiator.
Bracket can be made in a little Bridgeport mill or even a drill press with a little patience.
