I never did find that "connection" with the 964. I poured my soul into it, and just didn't get the same in return. Lovely car, but not sure where the void was....maybe it was the guards red? Nevertheless, It was sold on BaT this last spring. I am having such a blast researching and planning out this 1967, that I hope will bring that connection I'm looking for. The same connection I continually get from my FJ40....like yesterday running an errand, pulling the knobs on the dash to start (choke) and then for heat and the fan when warm. It's like an old watch with a broken-in leather strap your grandfather gave you. Soul. Companionship. So far, even in pieces this 1967 911 is giving me those chills.

I agree, the new ones are nice and comfortable, but the old ones have soul. Plus, if you like to restore or tinker, they have that to offer. I am close with my 57 356. I just found a legit barn find 71 to add to the stable. Same owner since 74 and in amazing condition after a 15 year slumber.

I totally get it, I have driven everything from a 356 speedster to a 911 gt3rs. Yes they continuely got better and safer and more modern, but also lost the analog feel and pure driving experience. And lets not forget the sound an early high reving flat six does to your soul!! I am happy I held onto my 87 with the 3.2/g50, still has the sound and feel of an early car with super reliability! The 964 was 80% new and really started to get heavy and with couls and ps, it was a departure from the pre 89 911’s. Looking foward to see this come to life!!

It’s your thread, you get to post what you want in it.
I will continue to follow along as you do great work as well as making the posting interesting.
Thank for sharing 😁

Land Cruisers and Porsches seem to go together. I have a few as well.
I recently walked by this driveway in my hometown.

My father was the president of Founder's region of the PCA in 1963 and he raced Speedsters for many years. He loved Land Cruisers too, which is where I suppose I get my sickness. Here he is getting ready to start a race:

Dallas,
I'm a newish member and infrequent poster, but I spent the last 3 days reading all 72 pages of this build. It was like reading a book, where the protagonist gets the crap kicked out him for awhile, before triumphing over adversity.

I stumbled onto this while trying to figure out the best way to address some rust / body work on my 71.

I just wanted to commend you for all the work you put into this. It was really incredible to see the transformation that Cruiser went through - and how much you persevered to get this done.

I don't have the skill set to do a full restoration at the level - but it has inspired me to attempt to address the body work the right way!

@Razin96 - thank you for the kind words. This community is like "home" for many. Such a great and foundational place to learn, grow and share. Over the last 22+ years, this place has been just that for me. I hope it becomes that and more for you. Welcome. Now....go find yourself an aircooled Porsche and you're truly a madman!

The two Porsches you had during the course of this thread were gorgeous!

If funds, time and my wife ever allow for it, I would go for a 64 and 1/2 Mustang.

Though an FJ45 is pretty high on my want list.

@Razin96 My brother has been a Mustang nut for over 40 years… he calls them Rustangs. He just sold a ‘68 fastback with the police interceptor and 4-speed. New floor pans impressed me the most. It went from a hole in the floor to “like-new’.

When my wife and I lived in Vermont literally on the Canada border…my FJ40 was killed by salt and rust. @dmaddox I have read your restoration build so many times I feel as if I did it with you.

The NE is tough on cars! I had family up in Glover VT - probably not far from where you were and their trucks didn't last long.
