Nuthin feels better than having something you have measured and built fit right in like it was meant to be there. I luv working with aluminium, tank looks great.

Kevin,

Judging by the location of the roll cage, I guess you are no longer putting a factory tach in there?

Also, are you worried about the tank hitting the bed rails when the frame flexes? It looks great, and I am damned impressed with your fitment- but that is all I would worry about. I want to have you make one for Patches...:) Then I would have three tanks...I think I would have to have a fuel tanker licence to drive her.

Cheers,

Josh

The tach wil go in there somewhere, I think :hillbilly:.

I have an overhead console in the plans but hopefully I can find a spot for it in the dash. The overhead console is for pyro, boost, air system pressure, oil temp, radio, DVD/GPS, extra gear switches, rocket launcher etc. It will be part of the cage and all wires will be hidden so the roof/ rear wall comes off easy.

The tank is at least 3/4" from the frame all the way around and I will lower it till it clears the bed by a safe margin. It's just strapped in for now to get it off the floor and out of the way.

I'm at work programming bed parts... here's the front wall of the LWB bed.

pyro and boost? I missed the part where you were putting in a diesel haha. What diesel are you going with?

So as of this particular moment my favorite color combos are...

Tan and Tan canvas with white bezel and cab roof

Silver and Black canvas with white bezel and silver roof (I don't think white roof would look good with the balck canvas)

Basically - stock vs new school

Wow came across this thread and really dig your build.

I built that FJ45 years ago, turbo diesel, five speed, disc brakes all around...

Local boat top company made the rear top and the customer wanted the roof same colour like the early FJ45s came from the factory.

3B turbo/intercooler , 5spd, 4 disc brakes - I don't mind the smaller power than other yota diesels given the miserly fuel consumption. And with the turbo she'll go ok with the added weight of my mods.

Thanks Radd
Love the top on that unit. I'll have to hit the coast and visit my bro in Victoria for a maiden voyage next summer. That'll make him green, especially with his 71 40 sitting in a local hangar with one flat tire. My liitle guy wants to see that steam locomotive in Duncan, I think that's where it was. Couldn't stop there last year on the way to Tofino.

Yep thats were the steam train is parked, right on the north end of town, the shop is near the south end of Duncan on your way to Victoria.

If ya get a chance, drop on down.

By the way we finished a 13BT rig at the shop and it hauled very well with 35s on it, so a 3B with turbo will be plenty powerfull. And I gotta still tell ya, even with all the nice toyota diesel choices, the 3B is on my all time favourite list.

WOW that is ONE VERY slick gas tank..... careful, your going to have people asking you to make them one soon.....

That's already happened. In fact it happened as soon as he started talking about an aux. tank.

24 - when I get done with the bed reproduction I'l be back on my cage and that aux tank we were talking about. :)

This has been a spectacular build so far, I can't wait for more. Wish I had access to the tools you do! Not to mention a 45 as clean as that

any updates ? very cool work.

I've been working on building a new bed from scratch in another thread. Started off just doing side panels but now I'm doing the whole thing. I'll be back on this thread when that's done.

Potash actually. I was a little hesitant to post pics for fear of being ridiculed as a sucker but I know the supplier personally and have no worries I'll get my monies worth out of it. This one was underground. She's pretty rough but for the price I figured what the hell, I'm gonna zero time the motor anyway... My supplier has several more (some in much better shape, not all from underground) and has guaranteed a complete motor one way or another for the money I have already paid. I'm really just looking for a good block from this and we'll see what else is salvagable. The H55f has the forward? shifter location and should fit nice. Split case transfer box is cool too. I've got all the mounting brackets and crossmember - I just have to mount them and this drive train will slip right in. I'm gonna wash it down and mount everything before stripping the truck to the frame for coatings/ bodywork/ drive train rebuild etc.

But first - the bed project needs to come to completion...
