I was my friends ‘73 that sold me on buying my ‘74. I was a kid and only saw it had a 4 speed. This is a great look-back. One thing I don’t get…my ‘74 color was listed as horizontal blue and I read that was not the blue for that year…

I remember it so vividly because I would joke to friends..’ ok, it’s blue like the horizon so why not call it horizon blue’

My Jan 73 was definitely horizontal blue, so maybe not everything you read on the internet is verifiable.

My theory is that "horizontal" is a translation error from the Japanese. I agree, horizon blue should be the correct name.

Has anyone of the 73 owners had to make a lens gasket for the reverse light? If so, what was your solution?

This is what I used this to make temporary gasket. I bought a small piece from a local craft store.

I'm planning to try and 3D print this fall when work slows down.

I just cut the basic shape out with gasket material to have a barrier between the metal and glass.

Original.

Did you measure the old gasket to 4MM which appears the one that is highlighted.
Would have to check but think the gasket was close to rubber. It needs to cushion as well as seal.

I didn't have an old one to measure. I picked 4 mm to seal and cushion. The 1 mm was too thin for that and the next size up seemed too thick.
Louie was is pavement princess so I'm not really worried about the seal, It will be a bad day if the light is under water.

I guess after 50 years, it’s hard to determine the OEM thickness after being crushed and exposed to the elements. Let me get my calipers though . 😂
