Beautiful execution, that Auburn LSD has got me thinking!

They really work great in the rear going up wet and slick roads. Small rocks here and there. I’ve found them to work worlds better than a Toyota LSD.

Caution: chat

How was NO? I need to get to the south sometime soon for some serious food, esp. Cajun.

It’s a mess to be honest. Covid was rough in it. Lots of closed businesses still. Lots and lots of crime.

Off season is OK as long as you stay in the AC

C Clip hell.

I was convinced there was no way these axles would go far enough in to get the C Clips on so I messaged @cruisermatt since he has done a few of these. He assured me they worked so I made it happen

I ended up having to take the lip off the dust shields to get the axles in far enough for the c clips.

Even then you have to clock the axle just so where the wheel studs are not hitting the 60 brakes then it will go.

Once the clips are on and you pull it back out there is plenty of room to maneuver

Frustrating day. I put the tires on the rear and a) only about 1/2 the lug nuts stick out of the wheel.
b) once I tighten the lug nuts the axle freezes in place. It’s not brake drag either.

I messed with it a bit and then called Justin at Redline and got some TSM discs headed this way for backup. If I can’t figure this FJCo deal out I’ll punt

Headers from SOR arrived.

Gold F valve cover bolts via the king of gold Toyota Matt. I think I’ll leave them gold.

While I’m waiting on parts I started wrapping my head around this early harness and how I’m going to hook all this stuff up under the hood.

I spent Friday and this morning putting the head back on Powda Blue and then I got back busy this afternoon on the FST

Intake and exhaust in place. The Wizard will make me take it off again so I used an OEM gasket as not to ruin a Remflex

I got a nice stainless brake line kit from
Man A Fre and started putting them and hard lines in place

I messed around on the farm until after lunch then went into the shop to just start working on little stuff like yesterday. Hauled dirt for Red. Added some vent wings to the 6x6.

First thing I did was put some 90wt in the front axle then I started messing with the rear wiring harness.

About 1/2 hour later I looked up and there was a quarter size drip of 90wt under the axle.

I wiped it down thinking it was just some leaking from the fill…….er….praying

1/2 hour later I had another quarter.

Holy hell. I assembled it with a clean surface and an OEM paper gasket but I guess it was having none of that.

So the last 5 hours I’ve spent undoing and redoing a 3.70 swap.

What. A. s***ty. Day.

Ran by PowderKeg this morning and my pallet from @orangefj45 had arrived.

I cracked open the box and Georg had a special prize he’s been hoarding that he let us use on this special truck. This is an OEM 40 FJ40 with H55 crossmember. We basically have been making this setup lately out of a 3 piece FJ60 crossmember but having an OEM one cuts out a lot of fab time and basically requires only some frame holes to be drilled

I put it in the paint booth and slicked it all up.

Notice Red has beautified the paint booth this season

That’s where I’ll leave it for now. Old man tired.

(Passenger bellhousing motor mount is just there for now to make sure of height and center)

Nothing exciting today but steady progress.

Got home and started around 1 drilling holes in the frame for the crossmember.

Because the 1972 trans hump is small and low I wanted to drop the rear about 1” from stock. That required new holes in the frame pieces and then the fun job of drilling 8 holes in the frame with a right angle drill.

That done the Wizard is here making sandwich plates with welded captive nuts to add strength

Got the PIMP electric fan setup in for the FST and had it powder coated black to blend in.

This setup without PS allows for one belt and nearly silent operation. These radiator SPAL fans are in a t-Stat and I’ve never gotten the trucks hot enough to make the fan go into full power. They are silent even at 190

These run a little thicker than the OEM and late shroud so I egg out the lower radiator mounts on the frame and slide the base forward about 1”

My donor stabilizer rods were from a 1978 so the drivers side frame hole is a bit further forward so I put some bends in the rod to make it work nicely
