Who else takes their stock FJ40 on a 1200 mile road trip on a whim?

I wouldn't think twice to do a solo trip.
With my wife? Nah. I'll pass.

Solo? I'd drive to the north pole without a thought or care in the world about my 40.

Back in day I would drive 1000 miles in less than 24 hours with the 2 wolf dogs and a bunch of tools. We would stop every hour get walk around a bit and then back on the road again. We stopped for gas once as I had 18.5 in the front and 12.5 in the rear aux tank.

I remember going threw Bullhead city at 0230 and it was 113 degrees - the dogs and I did ok - had a two gallon new bug sprayer with ice water. Every 15 minutes I'd spray myself down then put the wand over my shoulder and blast the dogs up on a padded shelf that ran across the jump seats. Every other space was full of clothes, tools and other stuff in boxes or packs. I made that trip at least 3 times there and then months later back. Never broke down.

Got back from my trip, where I rescued a sweet little lab/terrier cross.

He'd been intentionally starved and beaten by his prior owner.

Unfortunately a volunteer reached for his bowl while he was eating and got nipped and then raised hell about it. Because trying to take away a starved dogs food is a great idea.

We are going to reevaluate him and see if we can give him a second chance at life if possible.

I feel like a complete dope. I've been unable to seal the driver's side door for a couple years now. Spent lots of wet days and nights driving.

Then yesterday I discovered a missing screw on the hinge side of the door that adjusts the upper door seal. Found an appropriate replacement and surprise, I now have a good door seal.

Doing some trip prep for our Miles for Mutts trip across America on Lincoln Highway.
First was modern headlights and taillights from Super Bright LEDs.

Had someone flash me for high beams for the first time since getting the rig

Did an ashtray delete which provided a handy little shelf.

I hate removing the troop seats, but need the room.

I removed mine ages ago for more room to pack stuff, and I rarely if ever miss them now.

Have fun on your trip!
Cool, thanks!

I think troop seats really make the FST look "right".

They also provide a little wind protection for the dogs with the windows rolled up.

If I still had the hard top I doubt I'd want troop seats
