My BIL, who lives in Clarksville, just texted my wife that he is getting a rescue dog TOMORROW! I wonder…?

@wicker dropped by to say howdy in Ames Iowa the night before our Lincoln way trip

Ordered a new hand brake cable, rebuild kit and pcv and pcv rubber from Cruiser outfitters. All still super affordable.

Let me tell you, though, installing the clevis to the upper joint on the hand brake is a bugger of a job. 1.5 hours and two dislocated shoulders later I got it in, though. Here's to never having to do that again.

I'm going to wait until tomorrow to rebuild the flange My everything hurts

I bought the overhaul kit for the brake flange and figured it out without consulting a manual. I did that to get a better understanding of how it actually works.

It's a certified PITA. So many things have to go together with no logical order of assembly. Pulling back the spring on the cable to attach it to the actuator arm was not fun.

I have a complaint about the double seal kit. It came with 4 hex wrench screws. This is a huge mistake, imo. Only 3 of the screws can actually be installed. One needs to be a conventional bolt to allow it to be installed under the actuator assembly.

My double seal kit cleans up a flaw in the original casting that improves installation with conventional hardware.🤷🏻‍♂️

Not sure what you are saying here.

Three of the screws are quite easy to install with the hex screws.

The bottom right screw should have a normal head so you can get to it under the mechanism with an open end wrench

My mistake Drew. Read it too quickly. You are referring to the four pieces of hardware that hold the backing plate to the housing. I was referring to the FIVE pieces of hardware that mount the Speedo housing to the transfer case, and specifically to the corner that takes the long bolt, which is crowded by the casting.

For the bolt that has to get behind the actuator arm, there is a factory bolt, M8 with a crosspoint in the head (think oil pan bolts) that comes in super handy for setting AND tightening that one particular spot.

Like a true man.

People joke, but figuring things out is 1000x better than following instructions, imo
I taught my kids when they were young that when things were broken, they should try to take them apart before they throw them away. 1:They’ve got nothing to lose if it’s already broken. 2: they might discover what is broken, and possibly a way to fix it. 3: regardless, they learn something about all the different ways that things are put together.

They are each of them the handiest people in their respective circles of friends.😊

TBH, figuring out that you need to pre compress the spring to fit the cable on the actuating arm was the toughest thing to figure out
Needle-nose vice grips for the win.😉
