It may seem like the thread has died off and it has I suppose but the build is still front and center in our shop. It’s occupying a bay in our shop and we are picking away at the build here and there.

Recently we have been able to get some good hours in on the project and we will be on that trend until it goes out for paint. It is going to have a stint at the interior shop soon simply because we need seats to build the roll cage and we prepped seats for resto.

Anyways, update time!

We finished off the custom air box with our hold down clamps.

We decided to plumb a fair share of the intercooler piping in hard aluminum lines. So we fabb’ed these hard lines. We will probably paint or coat them before all said and done. When we ordered the IC we specified rear ports to keep the engine bay clean. We had to modify and tig weld one fitting but all good now. The rubber hoses are just slapped in, this is by no means a finished job.

Due to our setup, we get a nice clean engine bay when the hood is up.

I was actually thinking about this thread while working on my 40 today. I planned on looking it up and pinging you for an update.

One more of the bumper during fab. I have always disliked a thin tow point, it makes the d-ring (or whatever you use) flop all over the place and does not feel like a solid mount. Even 3/8’s is super whimpy to me. So we built these nice and thick, they were fully copped into the bumper and I feel they are super solid.

The floor was a bit if a mess in the cab, as-in bent down. All them years of those seat legs pounding on the floor pan put a nice big concave in it. We straightened it up and made sure the trans cover we built still fit good. This is prep for seat fitting. We use an interior shop that would not be happy if we sent this to them with a janky bowed floor and asked them to give us real nice seats.

So a lot going on in this build lately, it’s just detail work that takes time.

Clutch system all plumbed up.

ALL our hard brake lines are built now, just need to get the soft lines done to wrap it up.

Don’t recall if I mentioned it already but these are 60-series door triggers we have installed.

We have decided to not sacrifice the 1HDFT engine harness we have. So little from it would be used it just doesn’t seem worth killing it.

So we are going with an aftermarket “general” harness that gives us everything we need or just about. Obviously by the pic above the Dakota Digital wants us to run their sensors on the engine, which is fine we just need to adapt them in a clean way. No BBQ fittings @Onur 😂 More on that as things progress.

We also have got a little something else planned in our intercooler system, I will post up when it’s time.

There really is a lot going on in this build and in the wiring department. I think it is going to be a pretty unique 45 yet still true to form and Toyota and Land Cruiser. I don’t know of any 45 pickups running around with an FT and a similar build.

We are not running an ECU, the 1HDFT in an 80-series would have run an ECU however, the FT just doesn’t need it. It is truly a perfect swap diesel in this regard as it is still old school mechanical unlike the FTE which absolutely needs an ECU. All the FT needs to run is keyed ign to the fuel shut off solenoid on the IP and ign power to the starter. Being the last of the Toyota turbo diesels that are mechanical yet still being a 24-valve and modern, I just can’t think of a better turbo diesel to swap into a 40/45-series.

Having recently finished up @jomelo 80 series with an FTE along with Gturbo red wheel and similar upgrades as this HDJ45 build is getting....holy **** this Cruiser is going to rip! It’s half the weight of Johns 80 and part time 4wd vs full time 4wd. What do you think @wngrog after driving his 80? Plenty of power for an old 45-series!? 😆😂

Good thing we did the traction bar, it’s going to need it with this engine! 😎🤙

It’s still. 💩diesel but it’s the best of the 💩 diesels.

Toyota gave us BBQ threads and Dakota gives us NPT threads for goofy British thread stuff.

I don’t sweat it. Adapt and roll

Maybe we will convert you one day but at least for now, you have had a taste of the stinky Cruisers! 😆🤙

And hey, at least it’s no 4BT! 🤗

Me? I love them both and both have different but fun driving experiences.

Filler hose delete? Widening the tank with a new fill location?

Filler already deleted and body cut out for the filler filled over with sheet metal.

I will give a hint, fuel tank is going behind the rear axle.

Nolen will be upset but this is or was a really nice tank, very clean inside.

Cheers
