I set the front pinion at just about 10*.

The reason being, laser beams.

A half an inch higher than ride height without all the rest of the weight.

Ride height, front to rear rake.

Don’t think I could get much better than that. Obviously it’s going to sag as more weight is added but I have got a pile of leaves here to play with and keep it in the 1-2* of rake.

5” of up travel on the front, pretty much right what I was shooting for.

What is your front shackle length going to be?

Unknown at this time. Depends what I want the angle of the dangle to be. Generally though 2” between frame rail and leaf spring + a 15* or better shackle angle is what I shoot for. Hence the 2x4 spacer. ;)

That's the thing with the sleeve bushing in the frame.. gotta get it right the first shot. I did my 62 like that and it's like an inch more forwards then it should be and there's not much I can do about it now.

I drilled a 1/4" hole though the frame and made shackles with a 1/4" hole instead of the spring pin sized hole so i could put the weight on it with the actual shackle. With a Grd8 1/4" bolt. Just to see what it would look like. Worked pretty well

I got a tool for plotting the hole. Wish I still had a mag drill for drilling it. 🙄

I am probably going to add another leaf to the front, bottom and short, as a stiffener.

A little more test fitting this morning to make sure the owner of the truck is good with it.

He is so, moving forward. Going to run SCS F5 wheels. That and tires are getting purchased soon.

Cheers

The 35s (?) look good on the 45. I think those wheels look good on it too. I saw you are going with F5 wheels though.

315’s so ya 35” basically. The wheel is my spare from my 80-series, it won’t work on the front axle with FJ60 outers because they won’t clear the tie rod. But the owner likes them too which is why we are going F5, it’s very similar to the 80-series wheel.

Adjusted my rear pinion angle today. I was close with my guess but still 4/10ths out. Not anymore. :)

Starting in on rear traction bar since after this and finishing burning on the leaf perches the rear housing is done and ready for paint.

Got the dom I need coming tomorrow to sleeve the frame on the front. I am using OEM Toyota rubber bushings on the frame side up front.

Looks like I will be rotating this nearly 15*!

Without flexing it out (which I will be doing soon) it looks like 10-12” shock in front and perhaps 12” in rear.

Hacked out the mid frame crossmember today.

It’s in good condition but thin. Before I setup the traction bar I want to replace it with a piece of dom. So need to bend one up to match. Did this on the last SoA FJ40 with the same rear traction bar. It’s not so much because the traction bar will put a ton of force on it, it won’t and only vertical. It is that the mount is at least 3/16’s and the stock crossmember is barely 1/8th inch at best.

Cheers

This was fun...

But I persisted and it is nice and clean frame side. Probably won’t do a scab/fish plate as not needed. We will see, it’s an odd size which iirc is why I plated it last time.

The dom that the OEM rubber bushings fit in perfectly.

Ran out of wire before finishing but you get the idea.

Should do the job of controlling pinion deflection and axle wrap.

Little update.

Waiting on some items from RuffStuff for shocks, shackles and a baby shackle for the traction bar.

Tires just arrived, 315 Falken Wildpeaks. Just waiting on the F5's to get them mounted.

Looks like we are going King 2.5's with remote resi and adjuster.

I moved over to the Troopy we are building and doing body work while we wait for a few things. Also got to get the new crossmember bent up before proceeding much more.

Cheers

Got some offset shackles in to play with.

Front diff skid and rear shock tabs too.

A lot of weight sitting on these leaves for a few weeks now. Just going to add a short stiffener spring to the bottom and call it good.

GTurbo is still a few weeks from shipping back to us so probably a month before we see those goodies. Mid frame crossmember is in the process of being bent up. Stock is 2.25” OD and can’t find a die that size without spending some coin so going with 2” DOM. Wheels will be here Monday, tires are already here.

We will finalize on the Kings before to long so we can get them ordered.

Cheers
