a.greenspan, thanks for the translation. So Mike Sanders or Teroson looks like the way to go for rust after completion. Anyone know if Sanders or Teroson is available in the US? I will look into it. Love the Mercs. :)

n! Das Fett verflüssigte sich auch schon ohne Heizplatte im Vorratstopf,....

*they sprayed Mike SANDERS :)
b) sure, but not for rustprevention
c) best wax product in all test was
teroson
TRP_F0883793.jpg

this MB 600 had no rust, but they sprayed it with Mike Sander

"..dessen Schweller innen so jungfräulich waren, daß wir uns fast nicht trauten, dort Sanders reinzusprühen
Aber besser jetzt und für alle Zeiten fettig, als in kurzer zeit rostig!*...

trasnslation :*... better now Sanders than rust in some years ;)[/QUOTE]

Hi Mark,
Teroson is a brand of the Henkel group
Link : - Brands - Henkel
"...Under body Coatings and Sealers
Underbody Coatings and Sealers are primarily applied in the paint shop and based on PVC plastisols and polyacrylate bases and secondly in the repair and maintenance and based on wax and bitumen.
Henkel’s Teroson brand offers spray applied underbody coatings that combine acoustic properties to complement the abrasion resistance of the UBC and seam sealers focused on paintable and non paintable sealing applications. The Terotex range also includes waxes for the protection of cavities, engines, frames and underbody applications. Water or solvent based, high solids and melts are all available...."

Here is the link to the Wurth site.

https://shoponline.wurthusa.com/wurthusa/servlet/CyberVendor/search/

I talked to tech support and they said they recommend, as does a.greenspan to make the necessary repairs using weld through primer, paint the vehicle, then fog body cavities using the Body Wax #0892080 (2 33.8 oz cans @$29.99 ea.). They also suggest using their multi-gun which allows for adjustment of the spray pattern etc and comes with three wands (#0891110 @$279.95 ea.) ouch. He did say any Schutz gun will work, just may not be as user friendly as theirs. I also asked him about cleaning of gun when finished. He said you just close the product valve and blow it out with the air. Thanks a.greenspan.

4 hours last night

Moving along the drivers rocker I got into the lower cowl section. The only way to get it right was to remove most all of it. Pics show the results of 4 hours of work. Now just a little bit of prep and media blast and will be ready to put back together. I also took some pics of the insides of the cowl just bc the camera sees better than I do and I wanted to get a good look inside. One thing that was very interesting is that inside the rocker there was some very heavy undercoating like what was under the entire vehicle prior to media blasting. In most all the areas where the undercoat was the metal was like new after removing it. Not sure how undercoat got inside the rocker, but you can see from the pics that when I ground it away, the steel was perfect under it. The only why I can see how it got in was the small cracks along the edges or the piece I cut out. They must have put the gun up to the crack and shot it in. Too bad they did not hose it down more. But this is a very good real world idea of how undercoating can really help. This thing will get well coated once completed.

last ones

Thought I would show the body on the rotisserie and my shop cart that is slowing getting organized. Having all you stuff on one cart really makes it so much nicer to start and stop work for the day. Much more productive. At least now I don't feel like I am spending more time looking for stuff than actually working.

found this
Zinga galvanic coating ...
"Can serve as an ideal primer (body-cavity sealing) ....."
Zinga galvanic protection, Carwell Zinga USA, zinc coatings

"...ZINGA is touch-dry and powder-free in about 10 minutes,
depending on the atmospheric conditions and the drying process.
It is fully cured after approximately 48 hours. ..
ZINGA is a coating that is best applied in two layers.
A new coating of ZINGA can be applied after one hour."

Cheers

Peter, did you see this on the Zinga web stie?

Carwell Zinga USA, Specialty Coatings, zinc coatings, marine coatings, industrial coatings

Looks similar to the other cavity rust treatments.

My concern is the areas that there is no way to get to unless I were to rip the entire truck apart and I am pretty much doing that. I don't know if I should leave these areas for the Wurth Cavity Wax or try to treat them while they are open. I just hate not doing anything while they are exposed but Wurth says to not apply their product until completion? Weird that the Jaguar restor shop is doing it during the rebuilding process. Something does not jive?

Hi Mark,
a) yes ;)
b) would treat them while open with Zinga
Some key points about ZINGA ( Zinga web-site)
Can be applied in humid conditions.
  • Can be reapplied to a previous Zinga layer to form a single, continuous layer.
  • Can be applied over old galvanized zinc coatings.
  • Can be plated over.
  • Unlimited shelf- and pot- life.
  • Electrically conductive.
  • Flexible and compressible.
  • Can be welded through.
  • Can serve as an ideal primer or as a sole protection.
c) would not do that.
Wax or grease can burn during welding

WAX or GREASE protection after painting your car !

don`t forget ;)
step by step
first - welding
second - paint your car
third - rust protection grease or wax

Cheers

Peter, awesome pics. Check out this web site. ClassicJaguar.com. This is where I saw the Body Wax. They are clearly using it during the resto process. You will see that this is definitely a first rate Jag resto shop so I have to believe they know what they are doing. I emailed their shop and tech departments with questions, we will see if they reply. The link below is one of the many projects they are doing. Scroll down and you will see the use of Wax. And it is on almost every one of the projects.

I like rare things. They are more interesting than mass produced things, maintain value better, not everybody has one and......well....the're rare. That car hauler is the coolest truck I think I have ever seen. Real shame they crushed the original but very impressive that they recreated it. Thank you for posting that picture. I don't think I would have imagined such a vehicle otherwise. Steering with the axle so far behind the driver must take a little getting used to. You'd be swinging out over the sidewalk turning into a narrow street.
