Hey would any of you guys be able to tell me which b engine this is? It's from a late 80's/early 90's Hino.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Lewis

I think it's probably a 14b-t.

It should be stamped on the block. Hino used a lot of other 4 cyl diesels besides the B variety.
If you cant get there to view it ,try finding the exact model and year of the truck.

I think there is a list of Hino diesels on Wikipedia

Thanks,

Nuno,
I'm sorry to say that the engine won't fit into YOUR BJ:grinpimp:. Just PM and I'll come to Portugal and carry it out to the trash pile for you:D:D:D. Seriously, It is a great engine, and I am presently still trying to get my hands on one to put into my BJ40.

hummm, still in production...parts for 20 years...
i am starting to like this engine but going to the local Canadian Toyota dealership for parts could raise a few eyebrows and shaking of heads...
not sure if this would be a good swap for those that need their vehicle on the road everyday due only to this issue.
still appealing though

crushers,
Just curious since I'm trying to chase this engine down, why do you think trying to order parts from the local dealer would raise eyebrows? Also what makes you unsure of using this engine in a DD? I was thinking that since the engine is still in production and I'd be assured of parts for decades that this would be a good choice for a mixed use DD and light to med off road. Thanks.

A 15B in good condition and set up correctly would probably go for years on just oil and filter changes.
This ,by the way ,is what replaced the 1HD FTE in the Coaster.
Its quite amazing they made this old B style engine Euro compliant

if you ever tried to source JDM parts in Canada then you would understand...most just tell you that you are SOL and go on to the next customer. Toyota does not back part numbers that are not in their specific countries EPC...
that is the only reason i would hesitate to use this engine. nothing worse than waiting for a part or trying to locate a part that you need yesterday...

i am not saying the engine is not reliable, i do not know the engine at all, if it is like the old "B" series engines it should be good for 500K at least with no real issues... but if you are Canadian and need a part...what do you do?

for you and your location it might be a perfect candidate... just check with your local toyota dealer and make sure you can get parts supply... is all i am saying...

Crushers,
Got ya. I didn't think that you meant anything negative by the post. I was just really curious as to what your reasoning was. I agree as well there is nothing more frustrating than needing a part that you can't source locally easily. Frankly that is one of the biggest frustrations with my build, I have to import almost everything that I need. The good news is that the engine is used in Dyna trucks and Coaster busses both of which are plentiful in this region. Thanks,
John

Nuno .. count the splines at the clutch .. and take a measurement of the disc .. I'm under the impresion that will share the 275mm clutch and 21 splines as HZ ..

i like the adjustable rockers.

I like the position of the primer .. on top, very accesible .. Toyota still learning and improve their work ( engines )

Boy that 15B-T looks awsome. I am still trying to find one for myself and if I am not worng, it will be a good swap for 13B-T, BJ74V-MNX. Since block is same, I am asuming there is no modifcation needed and can use existing tranny.

Those things are everywhere, any Hino 4 cylinder will have one. Geese go to Malaysia they put them in modified 44series . Good motor lots of them parts will be here for a long time. Toyota put that motor in the Megacruiser

I have checked the number of spline of the 15B-FT clutch disk. It haves 14 splines and haves a 300mm diameter.

The FJ40 F and 2F engine haves a clutch disk with 275mm and 10 splines, but the BJ40 B and 3B engines haves 21 splines.

I will modifie the 15B-FT clutch disk from 14 spline to 21 splines. Hope it will work. Only because i want to have a 300mm diameter disk.

15B-FT original clutch disk:

14 splines
300mm diameter

The 1HD-T and 1FZ-FE share the same 14 splines and 300 mm clutch ..

Interesting. I would like to see one of these in a 80 series, the Cummins is too brutal
I guess the new Coaster uses the same gearbox as the old one with the 1HD FTE.
