Saw Badlands last night, Rushmore and Custer SP today.

In Casper, WY rear driver axle seal is leaking. Check plug in diff is stuck and diff is real hot. Trying to figure out what to do.

Fill by removing the breather vent. Drill a hole in the top of the diff inspection cover and seal it with a self taping screw. Or remove the diff inspection cover and fill a ziplock bag with the oil and put it in and seal it up. Soon as you start driving it will rip open.

4runner does not have a diff cover.

Found a few posts on a 4runner site about replacing the seal. Doesnt look like it has any c clips?

Not sure if I want to tackle it here in the hotel parking lot. Bought 2 seals at oreillys tonight. Will try the plug again in the am if no worky then I'll do the breather hole.
There is also Toyota dealer here in town if I have to go that route. I am really thinking if I can get the fill plug off I can just keep an eye on the level unless it lets completely go like the guy in the above post.

OK we have wifi so I took a picture of my backing plate - Sorry its not turned correctly, the most fluid is on the bottom area.

I need to chill because thankfully we are in a city. Just don't want to ruin the vacation and hear all the I told you that you should have flown.....

Got the diff plug off at 6:30 am fluid level is good. Looks like both sides are leaking some. Sprayed the backing bolts down just in case. Going to run with it like it is and try to slow down some and stop a little more. Must not like the 80+ mph for a couple hours straight. Rear diff cooled down really quickly last night so might just be the speed, 255/85/16s, and length of drive without breaking?

May modify trip plans to accommodate.

Oh and my gopro hero2 is doing great. Got some sweet bids of driving through badlands NP, Nebraska, and Buffalo crossing Badlands Loop Road. Hope to get a few together when we get home.

Pray we don't get eaten by a grizzly today.

You'll love the "Going to the Sun Road" in Glacier!! Have fun and have you bear spray handy, I saw quite a few grizzlys last time I was there

Glacier was awesome! Our favorite this far. Headed to Northern Cascades NP now. Drinking a huckleberry milkshake and Lori is enjoying a huckleberry lemonade in Standpoint, ID.

That is awesome Matt I did an event at Schweitzer Mountain which is right there in Sandpoint, beautiful county up that way and awesome skiing as well! Your trip is bringing back lots of old memories for me

Visited with friends in Eastsound, WA on Orcas Island for the weekend. On the ferry now back to mainland. Seattle and Mt. Rainer today.

Thanks Toybota! It was good to talk with another cruiserhead even though briefly. I've seen a few other LC's but haven't gotten a chance to speak with any others. Rainer was great, wish we had more time to be there.

We are in SLC for the night, supposed to be at Moab but just too tired today. Stayed at Emmigrant SP in Oregon last night.
