Very motivating! Not only to have fun with the upgrades but the memories of those who helped you.

Those poor buggers are STILL helping me with my crap

Thanks for sharing! I'm very happy that my own BJ74 story starts up in BC and stars yourself and many of the fine folks you wrote about.

Wow...some of those pictures! Great write up Norm. Good times.

Ok, the 74 is finally in the capable hands of REDREEFER to fix the rust spots on the windshield frame and repaint the hood.

LOL, "rust spots"

Hood looks better already

I shouldn't be surprised - if I've learned anything in 25 years of 70 series ownership it's that where there's a little rust, there's a lot MORE rust :bang:

On the plus side, the cowl section isn't bad at all.

Options are being weighed before moving forward. IH8RUST!

this was a really distracting read while at work, also distracting about what to do with my 77 -arb locked front and rear. Reading the thread part way, I went to go meet a customer in my 77, and I thought, well I could sell the 80 and keep the 77, I could too one day share a story... similar to that of the 74, 1 cruiser is all one needs. Then I got back and read the post with both the 74 and 80, and decided against it. So thanks for the distractions, dreams, great thread, and keeping me status quo.

G'Day Fella's,

BJ70 Guy, thanks for sharing.

We don't know how lucky we are Down here, in inland Australia.
With rust being an almost non existent issue/problem.

Well, I'm not sure whether to say you're welcome or apologize :hillbilly:

I'm still at the point that I drive one for a while happy as a clam, then jump in the other and immediately think "damn I love driving this truck"
Switch vehicles again and repeat as necessary.

In the small group of friends I wheel with, 3 of us originally had 74s and one had an HZJ73. 2 of the guys got 80s (one FZJ, one HDJ), sold their 70s and never looked back. (ok, I think one might look back occasionally... when no-one's watching) :D
The other 2, me and Greg_B, love them both and so far can't/won't part with 'em.

I also support a bit of a motorcycle habit, so keeping both cruisers means neither gets upgraded as fast as I'd like. I tell myself I'm lucky to have both and that it's a small price to pay... every time I try to keep up with greg's intercooled, G-turbo'd 80 :D

Norm, great write up and its nice to relive some of those trip photos!

Forget what I looked like too 36 lbs heavier than now. burn that photo!

You're right I still look back which is why I'm surfing this forum

Oh you're lucky alright - you get all the coolest (rust free-ish) cruisers AND you're in Australia - one of my favourite places on earth!

Good times for sure, and more to come!
Not to worry, that pic will be gone when Flickr inevitably does a photobucket :hillbilly:

Awesome, I was thinking of Glenn, not you :D
And here I thought you sold the 73 and never thought of it again. Damn things kinda get under your skin, eh?

Thanks for the vid!

I was considering one of Joekatana's fibreglass windshield frames, but unfortunately he's out and won't have any till summer. So it looks like this one will be repaired.
Rob's not wasting any time.

Getting the inside dried out

cleaned up and Rust Bulleted

Not what you want falling out of your windshield frame!
38894198770_b57e9293dd_c.jpg

The bright side of your situation is that it only appears to be cosmetic at this point and no one is going to see it with the frame up-right (esp if you repair it well). Gives you a bit more time to wait for one of those awesome fiberglass frames.

G'Day Fella's,

No probs BJ70_Guy, any time your coming Down this way, let me know.
We can show you some good tracks.

The latest...

Hood coming along. If it had been done this way 8 years ago this aspect of the repair wouldn't have been needed :bang:

And the windshield frame... ahhh, yes the frame
39207872910_cac899d506_c.jpg

Lots of surface rust inside. Needed to be gently sandblasted...

\Blew right on through to the front side :bang:

At this point the bill to repair it will be getting dangerously close to the price of a new Toyota frame.

So we're working on sourcing a new Toyota frame :bounce2::bounce:

Don't know exactly how long it's going to take to get, but I don't expect I'll have my 74 back for a while.
Good thing I stuck to that 2 Cruiser plan! :D

Looking forward to another Utah trip in the 81 in about 6 weeks time, yeehah!
