My 1970 fj40 has been my pride and joy for 2 years now. With that said, it has become the chore of all chores since I decided to do a frame off rebuild. Don't get me wrong, I do not have some cherry cruiser worthy of a museum, but I wanted to try to right the many wrongs that the prior owner had done to my cruiser that I now call the bucket.
All I can figure is that the prior owner had gotten a new welder for Christmas sometime in the past and they decided to weld the top to the tub.
-- A plasma cutter and a little time later, I have rebuilt the mounting surface for the top. I also decided to take a fj55 that was rusted through and pull the running gear. So now my 70 fj40 has The 2f, 4 spd and discs from the 55. I am in the middle of this project now, and I am hoping to be rolling by Christmas. So if you have any suggestions or if you are in the Alabama area, send me a message and come by, I will have the beers on ice and an extra wrench just in case you want to help.
