Here's a decent thread with experience and info on the Sylvania zXe bulbs from the HID Planet forum:
http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?41184-New-from-Sylvania-SilverStar-zXe
Thanks, after reading that thread I can say these zXe's aren't for me.:ban:

But I am interested in replacing front parking lights and some rears, possibly with LED's.

I'd actually like to reduce front parking light output along with a mod to use with fogs without low or high beams as we've talked about. Also it appears using key fab which flashes parking lights, reduces life of these 5 watt bulbs.

Elijah I've asked this before so I hope you don't mind if I do again.

The 9011 mod to replace 9006, was cutting the excess casting off locking rings all or did you need to modify the plug for the wire harness plug?

IF so how did you do this plz...

The zxe's by no means compare to HIR or HID technology, but my wife and I both appreciated the increased contrast. Can definitely see better with these. Now that being said, if you're up for the mod, HID in a projector lens is really the best way to go, and for $90 I can't imagine why we would entertain anything else. Mine burnt out and I needed to replace it yesterday so I went for the zxe's just in the one side for experiment sake. Was fun. But I do agree most of the aftermarket bulb world is really bunk.

I not say there bad, just not for me . What do you think of the LED's.. thoughts?

Sorry, hadn't noticed that you asked about the 9011 into 9006 location mod.
You'll notice on the plug part of the bulb on the 9011 there are two plastic guide rows, this is on the inside. The plug end of the wiring harness for the 9006 has a place for only one plastic guide row. So on the plug on the bulb you have to cut down the two plastic guides. I'm cut them down just enough so that the bulb fit into the pug of the harness very snugly. Then the diameter of the 9011 is ever so slightly smaller then the 9006 or 9012. To address this I simply transferred the rubber o-ring from the old 9006 to the 9011 while leaving the original o-ring as well. This gave the bulb base the diameter needed to fit snugly into the 9006 headlight housing. Hope that makes sense.

The LED's in the parking lights are only very very slightly blue. The photo that shows them white is the best depiction of them. iPhone camera pic distorted the color.

Still wondering if anyone has any experience with H1 bulbs? Apparently there is yet another tiny difference between the LX I own and everybody else's LC.

Elijah,

Do you happen to have any pics - or would you mind taking a pic or two - to show what you describe above?

It's been a year or two since I did the mod. I simply followed the HIR bulb base modification shown below. But I didn't think about doing anything with the o-rings.

I remember when I did it that the bulb didn't seat as well in the projector housing as well as the 9005/9006 bulbs had. In fact, I was worried about them coming loose and unseated when off road. While that hasn't been a problem, it would be nice to get them tight and snug as possible.

Thanks!

(Note: If I've misinterpreted anything or this isn't adding any value to this thread, let me know and I'll delete.)

What is the question regarding H1 bulbs in the LX? I have upgraded my H1's to the regular silver star Series H1's. They made an improvement over stock, but not as much as HIR'S do. However, they outlasted both of my HIR'S in my HB non projectors.

When my HIR'S went on the way to Moab, I put in either extra vision or more silver stars in place of the HIR's. (I was all stressed out over my TPS issues as well as the bulbs n I can't remember for sure.) I will hunt down my receipt and figure out which.

Please remember that I installed the 9011(HIR high bulb) in place of the lows, (9006 or 9012HIR). Hopefully this is what you are talking about. The base of the 9011 bulb in the low beam light housing, once the tabs are turned and seated, will have a very slight amount of play in the low beam spot. This is due to the diameter of the low beam base being slightly larger than the high beam bulb base. Do you remember the o-rings at the base of the bulbs? I took the o-ring from the existing 9006 (OEM low beam bulb that is being replaced) and added it to the 9011 bulb while leaving the o-ring that came on the 9011 in place. With this additional o-ring, the bulb didn't have any play in it's seated, final position. It's fairly difficult to explain. I haven't checked but that might be identical to what I typed in the previous post! Ha! I suppose I could go pull a bulb and take a pic of the two O-rings on the base and post it later.

Is there a how-to anywhere on replacement process including fogs? search only turned up low beam bulb replacement. Yes, I'm a gaper when it comes to this stuff.

Get the bulb. Take out the existing bulb. Eyeball the shape. Snip with dykes and smoothe edges. Put it on and enjoy. Not a rocket science. Leave the calculator. Its not even a banana job. Do loosen the battery mount and stuff towel to push it back for a better access on left side.

Go back to post #1 herein. You'll find many helpful links. By the time your done reading and start the bulb replacement job you'll feel comfortable. Note the warning on bulb package "don't touch bulbs" or oils from skin will damage bulb.

Have you ever tried to remove DS headlight housing or just washer fluid reserve tank and leaving battery alone?

right o. dead easy as promised, battery side to yet be done and will try to snap a couple of pics, but of course it's really sunny here today.

no snipping here since what I ordered - I hope not foolishly - were 9005/9006 night breaker unlimiteds. since they sent me two sets can I put the hotter ones in the fogs?

never mind. answered my own question. different female end between 005's and 006's. definite color difference, hard to tell about illumination til we get out at night.

unfortunately the comparison shots don't show much. too much sun shining on the from of the truck.

anyone want to buy my extra set?

Could you clear up two points here:
1) The picture is not a reflective housing & bulb, but that of low beams which is a projector type lens with and H1 bulb in this LX correct?
2) How much time (old) was on the OEM bulb?

Some night shots of divers view would be cool. I've seen some taken paralleling & up next to building with lights hitting distant point that were very cool.

Which bulb are you selling 9005NBU or 9006NBU?
