I am thinking the following, depending on interest/funds:

Thoughts? Interest?

 what I wouldn't give to be able to do this trip. Must do some serious soul searching/finance planning/etc to see if I can make it happen....

An outsider throwing it out there, as some of the ONSC guys have also been talking about making this run also in 2013....

In 100% but as stated before I will be driving as to me that is half the adventure:beer:

you talking about doing the Rubithon or just our group on the Con?? Either way I can't wait to see this to fruition!!!

you are taking the prado on the rubicon? This is a dream trip of mine too, and I could definitely be interested. Will depend on a lot of things, but I'll be taking a hard look at this one.

Yes, I am taking the GX on the Rubicon...and Moab. I will be considerably more built/ready by then. Should have the build complete by then.

The Rubithon looks like it is usually in July. I think Moab may be a bit toasty then...avg temps at 98 degrees.

October 2013 looks perfect from a weather perspective for both spots. 70s! If we got a few groups convoying/making an event of our own it won't matter if we are part of a larger event.

I keep hoping for a well timed layoff to coincide with one of these big trips. Thought it would happen this summer for the Yankee run to CO. but that didn't work out... stuck working as usual.

Oct in two years? That just might work. Let me see how well I can time pissing off my bosses so it coincides with the trip of a lifetime! May be living in Charlotte by then... who knows.

I am just coordinating a non-negotiable vacation. I have enough and I never use it all in a year.

I think it is time to.

I'm cool with whatever time frame we go, but October might be russian roulette with the Con. I'd hate to have this trip spoiled by an early snowfall, just a thought.

I am open to suggestions, we have time :)

I agree that July would not be a good time, maybe Aug/Sept. As fun as Rubithon would be, I'd almost rather run it with a smaller group (UC family) than with 150 other folks.

And JP, I'd consider driving out there too, still many states that I'd like to see along the way.

I vote early September.... schools will be back in session and hopefully that will result in less crowds.

As for driving out there I've just got to convince my father to come along because he brings the company gas card :hillbilly: and that makes this trip a whole lot easier for me

can't wait for 2013 to get here:bounce::bounce2:

Bump........ Dan you still dreaming or are we going to make this happen :D

Planning a diesel swap for the 80 this coming winter so I will be primed for this trip in Fall 2013!!!!

Let's do it

I am still in for this, perhaps 2014? I have to get to Paris, Trinidad, and Germany (4 times) next year already. I think logistics and costs may kill me, but I can sure as hell get a detailed plan together so that if anything doesn't work out we can flip the plan a year.

What do you see as the biggest hurdle? I think we need to know the best time of year to be out there and the best way to get our gear there as well (assuming I won't have time to wheel and do a cross country drive).

I'd still prefer to shoot for 2013 I know where I will be a year from now but 2 years out is a bit of stretch for me. This is one of those trips where if you wait for the "stars" to align so to speak it isn't going to happen you just gotta commit and make it happen!!

Other than that time of year is a factor if we are going to hit both the Con and Moab, I'd prefer to hit them in the fall before it is too cold on the Con and maybe it won't be scoarching in Moab. My intent is still to drive out.

I'd like to see if there is any real interest in this because if this isn't going to work out I am going to shoot for the Rubicon 2013 next June... but I'd rather do a joint trip with you fine folks

My limiting factors are time and money (time being the bigger one).

I am completely game for 2013 if we make it a 1 week stint, which kills my ability to drive out and back (that is basically a week unless you iron butt it). I can possibly find 2 weeks, but that only makes Rubicon and Moab both possible. I can easily ship the truck out and meet it there while you drive out, just have to coordinate dates.

The fall works. I would think earlier than later...September comes to mind.

Yep Sept. 2013..... let's shoot for that, now we just have to find out if Rick and Heather are still in. A group of 4 to 5 I think would be ideal

I'm still game for this but time-off will always be subject to unforeseen forces. Andy and a couple of others in STLCA are talking about the same trip for summer 2013 - but they want to be there for the official Rubithon event in June. They mentioned that some trails are still snowbound on the Rubicon even in June. We should probably study the weather patterns for that trail a little closer to see if Sept is too late in the season (ie, I don't want to freeze my nutz off).

August/ Sept is the best time climatologically pretty much all over the west for mountain regions. All the passes are snow free and it is a very dry time of year. I'd be down with August except for Moab is going to be a little warm then...... plus Sept. means school is back in and the crowds are much less
