new year and all, figure I'd start a new thread. any info on the early model dash cap? some one had a dash off they're rig already and was going to get in contact with the place in Nevada? to see if they'd be willing to make one for the early models.

That would be me, I've got my dash in a box ready to ship. Classes and finals done, holiday season over, I'm going to begin the process of getting them quoted and made. I'll keep you all posted on how it goes. Cheers.

Brian

Post up who needs one, I'll post here from time to time with updates. I'm making an Excel spread sheet to keep track of those interested, it helps if I can say "I have xx number of people ready to purchase when you get this product into production" Cheers!

I'd be interested in a cap if I could find a capable dash:bang: Otherwise, I may be going to more wood:eek:

John, for the dash cap it just needs to be there. Cracks are OK so long as chunks are not missing.

There lies the problem... I don't have a dash at all right now:o

I'm sure someone out there has a parts piggy with a cracked dash for you.

Wonder how much if we get enough (early) model owners to commit??

That is a good question. Who is leading the dash caps up?

Anyway we can get a cost per quantity?

I thought Finewyns was heading this up or at least sending his in for a copy.

Well, after getting into contact with them, I'm afraid the answer is no, they cannot produce a dash cover for us. It costs $2000+ for a mold, and even though more than 8 of us would be willing to purchase right away, it will not be anywhere near what is necessary to justify the cost. Specter told them not to make one, so did Cool Cruisers. In this economy, it's just not worth it for them. Unfortunately for us, this leaves us back at square one. Unless someone pays the cost of the mold and R&D it is not worth it for them. I was afraid that this would be the answer. Sorry guys, no go :frown:

Sounds like we need to look elsewhere. I think probably the large part of the cost is the labor. Likely it can be done much less expensively in the developing world where labor is not $70/hr. and up.

This is true. If we split it up it'd be over 200 bux a person to front the money for the mold and misc. stuff, PLUS the cost of the cap. This is where people realize why manufacturers move out offshore. I'd like to keep things in America, but sometimes outsourcing is necessary.

Let me know. I have a few sources in China. What I would need is pics first of the front and back of a good one with dimensions and a good description of the material.

Once they give me the "Yes we can". I'll need to send them one to model. I can usually get a price and min quantity before we ship the model.

If we did this I would recommend we do the oem dash and not a cap. It will probably cost us a few dollars more to have the real deal done.

Let me know if someone can get the info to me. I specifically need to know the internal structure of it. Metal, foam, plastic etc...

Paul "lomusass" is also looking into this. Does anyone have pictures of the "new" and "old" dash styles?
