early dash cap

Well, after getting into contact with them, I'm afraid the answer is no, they cannot produce a dash cover for us. It costs $2000+ for a mold, and even though more than 8 of us would be willing to purchase right away, it will not be anywhere near what is necessary to justify the cost.

If a mold is provided, will they use it to make caps for us? There is a place here in Guatemala that makes injection moulded dies. I could ask them about it but I'd need to know what the requirements are from the end user/producer. No point in making a die that the producer won't use.

I NEED pics to see if this is possible. I believe I've found a source who can make these.

Charles, Do you need pics of the dash off the rig? mine is still on the rig, I could get pics of it when I get home midweek.

On or off, it doesn't matter. I need to see the differences.

Charles, hope these work for you. Paul

OK, so the only real difference is in the center section where it drops down around the "Land Cruiser" emblem?

Anyone have a dash to volunteer as a pattern? I believe I have someone who will make these.

charles I have the one in the garage that has cracks and the ends are broken off but are available for fitment. In other words I think they can be fit up for molding purposes. I just don't know abouth the cracked character of it. (do you remember seeing it?)

I don't recall seeing it. We'd need to take it for molding purposes. I'll talk to you next time I'm through. Do you still have the ends somewhere?

Yes, I have the wings. I will go find it and put them all together in one spot.

Great!! I'll see what I can do.

Early pig owners, do not despair!

Hey charles...could these people make a golve box cover, inst. cover and middle lower dash cover. Covers that would function to restore luster and avert future warpage? Would it be viable for any or all above?

Quasi hijack...it is still the dash. :)

They can make the same thing as the dash cap. Basically a hard plastic/fibreglass shell with a grain texture that slips over the cracked/damaged OEM part. They could probably also make something similar to OEM with the padding but I'm not sure on that.

SOR has something for the instruments and glove box cover already, do we want to do it twice or do something that is not yet underway? Specter Off-Road Land Cruiser Parts - Page 172 Dash Parts

I don't really know but the thought occured to me. I have never seen the SOR parts but I have heard complaints of their flimsy nature (I can not substantiat that). That being said, I would think the center dash might be a good reproduction as original being best but alternatively ,as they don't get as great of a hit of Sun light, just a hard case cover. This would be similar to my plan to use a dash cap to protect the dash I aquired.

I began to try Troll's repair on my glove box but it was so far gone it was not really a go. Of course, if Paul makes new dash metal then a soft (OEM style) glovebox cover would be a great thing. To me these rank with the rubber for the cargo area etc..

Lets have some folks chime in here on conditions of center dash etc.???????????????

Cost on all this will probably be similar to SOR simply because it's not mass produced. These will all be one off or small runs at best.

Anyone ready to step up with some $$ to get this happening (these parts on my truck are all OK)? I'll be seeing Paul again in a few days.

Charles PM me. What do you need w.r.t. $ or are you just talking orders in gen for floors/fenders?

what kind of $$ are you thinking? finished cost will be the main factor.

more on the order = lower cost to all?

I'd guess under $100 to make the first one (those are the numbers I heard thrown around when we were talking about it). That will give us an idea of the cost per unit in higher quantities. I'll also be able to judge the quality of the finished product.
