Charles.......any news on these? TIA

Lou

I'm trying to nail Paul down on a price. He'd like to get them made up with the mold he has made which doesn't have the patterning in it all over due to where he had to patch cracks on his sample. As soon as I have some idea on price I'll post up.

OK, prices just in. $180 uncovered. If you need it covered with a leather look vinyl it'll be an additional $80 (black or grey available). FOB SanJose, Costa Rica. Shipping will be less if they all come as a group so if you want one speak up and PAY UP!!

Once we have all the orders there will be a three week fab time and then shipping. Anyone in GA or TX want to be the receiver and re-shipper? We usually ship to Savannah or Houston.

Charles, anychance on getting a pic or two? confused on the uncovered ones, are just translucent that need to be painted?
I'm in for one but unsure of covered or not.

Uncovered will look like the ones in this post https://forum.ih8mud.com/pig-parts-group/259806-early-dash-cap-3.html#post5135924

Covered will be leather pattern vinyl wrapped to better match the stock dash. The problem was that the mold had to be taken from a dash that was not perfect so when Paul filled in the cracks then the cracked areas were gone but there also was no more grain pattern there either.

It really comes down to how you'd like it to look.

Of course, as with all dash caps, a dash needs to be there even if it is cracked and then this is mounted/glued over top.

No real deadline as they can be made "onesy-twosy" if you don't mind getting killed on freight!! A bulk order will make the most sense for all concerned.

you guys have done a great job on this and I would be interested in being part of a group buy if the price is kept under $200.

Not sure if it has been posted - but curious as to what is the finished cap is made of.

Thanks,

Let me know. I have a few sources in China. What I would need is pics first of the front and back of a good one with dimensions and a good description of the material.

Once they give me the "Yes we can". I'll need to send them one to model. I can usually get a price and min quantity before we ship the model.

If we did this I would recommend we do the oem dash and not a cap. It will probably cost us a few dollars more to have the real deal done.

Let me know if someone can get the info to me. I specifically need to know the internal structure of it. Metal, foam, plastic etc...

I agree with troll here, I would be up for a complete aftermarket dash being made, not just a cap, would rather spend the money on a complete dash.

"Finished" cap is fibreglass. It comes unfinished unless you opt to have it covered first at an additional charge as noted above.

OK guys all 15 folks who expressed interest in this as we were talking about it and working out the details have now been notified by PM. We'll see how many folks are ready to step up to the plate and buy the cap.

You're cheapest time to buy this is now. Group buy, group shipment etc. etc. It won't go down in price because we're NOT making extras for Justin Case or anyone else who will buy one "next month". There WON'T be stock taking up space on a shelf somewhere.

You want it?

Pony up the cash!

In the picture, it appears to be grayish. Optical illusion?

How "paintable" is it? Rustoleum?

With all the complex corners and such, how would vinyl work on that? I'd fear a quick separation:confused:

Let me know more details as you get them... I've got money set aside for it.

The dash cap is raw fibreglass. The intent is that the buyer paint it or have it covered. If covered in Costa Rica it would be done by an upholsterer.

I didn't expect to see you start doing upholstery:lol:

Not I!! They do a pretty decent job down there. I had them respring the front bench for my '55 and it's been good for the last 2-3 years since they did it. Before then it was like sitting on the floor.

The factory dash pad is a steel/tin base which holds the bolts, the base is overlaid with foam and a vinyl cover (MUCH thinner than a dash cap) goes over that. The thin vinyl cover gives the original dash it's padded feel (any dash cap doesn't have a padded feel).

If you get the dash cap you may be able to fab up something but you'd be going into uncharted territory.

Charles, are you still taking orders for the dash caps? If so, I am instested in one for 69 FJ55 along with one of the rear window gears that I am in the middel of pulling to send a pic.

Charles; have been off Mud for a while now with family issues and working many hours overtime out of state putting fj55 issues on back burner BUT would like to go ahead and purchase one; how much do I need to send?....where to?;

Lou

still not clear on how much and to whom do I send the cash:hhmm:; also upholstered in Guatemala would be nice........................................would prefer some kind of black vinil? instead of fabric.........total please TIA;
Lou
