I highly recommend a Specialized Air Tool floor pump. Analog dial with a switch hitter head to go between valve types. I've had one for over 20 years and its been great. Replacement parts are easy to come by as needed. For a $50 to $100, it's a great investment.

I saw this on the Tundras.com forum a few years ago. Place the TPMS in a PVC tube and pump it up to desired PSI and stash the tube somewhere in the car. Not ideal, but it'd get rid of the error message.

No issues with alignment at all. I did have some side to side leaning going on after the installation. I was anticiapting having to adjust the KDSS, but after about 2-3 days of typical driving it leveled itself out.

A new Tacoma is on my short list for a kids car for all of the reasons you mentioned. I drove a Tundra prior to my LC and I miss it about twice a year for hauling duties. To accomodate my hualing needs I realized for about $50 I could rent a trailer for a full day and have someone else store it.
