Another besides Boreas that would be further south/closer to Tincup would be Kebler Pass. Tons of aspen color in the fall.
I think you would probably be fine going up to Tincup from St. Elmo. Once up there you can walk/check out the west side, where it gets rockier...

A $1600 80 is pretty cheap - why not graft the camper onto the 80 front? You would have more cab room in the 80 vs the mini truck.

Oleg from Irbis Off-road started a project like this years ago. I’ve always liked the idea. I think the original Chinooks were dually rear axles though.

I would crawl under there and make sure the starter hasn’t loosened itself from the bell housing. And that your belts and tensioners are still snug. And look for anything else that might be loose in the engine bay or along the exhaust system. Catalytic converter heat shields can sometimes work...
Oh and I have 230,000 miles on original rear wheel bearings that have never been serviced. Should have long before now but it’s never made it to the top of the list.
