The 1979-80 crusiers in Canada usually are full of rust including the frames. Check the frame also. Are those Warn locking hubs ? It is a complete looking truck go look and touch that thing. It might be decent. Change the clutch in an afternoon and go rip it around. If it’s a first 40 and you have no spare parts it might be a bad deal but if you have tons of spare parts it may be a good deal. For a first 40 I’d say buy a nicer one Spend the dough. This could be a money pit
Definitely not my first 40 or Land Cruiser. Last
Checked I think I have owned 16? From 40, 45, 55, 60, 62, 80, 100 and my current 70 series.

It was more of am I missing something about a 79 that I didn’t know. Answer appears to be no. In my over 20 years on ih8mud I’ve learned a ton, but there are always certain gotchas with Toyota…especially the 70 series.

I’d expect an 82 or especially 83 to command a lot more, but not necessarily a 79 just because of the year and changes that were made.

I appreciate all the info, thanks!

Very true. If you have a lot of parts that match the year it could take a money pit into a good deal. If not no way to judge the cost. Decent tub and good frame are the two most important parts. Those are bad and don't have spares believe I would pass unless close to free.
