Unfortunately nothing too groundbreaking. Part of me keeps thinking about buying another truck and swapping the drivetrain over but part of me knows it has to be fixed.
I have the windshield frame stripped to metal, still need to make and weld in the patches. I wish I could find rust repair...
the 2l has roller rockers and double valve springs. its meant to rev. Its not a 6cyl 6bt and it wont act like one.
when I drove it to Reno I was in 3rd gear at 4000rpm for hours at a time.
That turbo is on the map at 25psi still, you don’t need the WG opening that early. That forfeiting valuable spoolywind. Set the WG to open at 25psi or just disconnect it.. the 2l will survive 25psi mine was eating 30 happily. Also don’t expect boosting hard below 2K rpm, these thing need revs...
I built a janky turbo set up on my Isuzu 1.8l where I cut the stock exhaust and put a 90 to send it back up to the turbo.. almost 2ft of up pipe. it still builds boosts quick. I also have seen many set ups with the turbo in the trunk. needless to say, Its not something to really worry about...
what exhaust you running after the DP? I would be really interested to see your drive pressure ( pressure before the turbo.. just take the EGT probe out and put a gauge on some copper tubing. you want 1:1 boost/ drive pressure or better .. if you muffler or turbo are at fault that will show...
something is still not all the way there.. the egts are high and the boost is low. your load of the bike on the back should have made the pump throw more fuel and given more boost.. hmmm
the black valve cover looks so much better than the blue!! glad to hear your getting better boost now..
my setup would start making boost almost immediately make boost and would even keep 1- 2psi when off throttle on the highway.
10psi was part throttle and 20-25psi flooring it under most...
that govner spring looks like its not right... I remember in the VW 1.6's people would take a spring out and put a shim.. but it makes it very very smokey.

I have not messed with timing on my 2l, but Ive been reading along here for a while.
I think you have 2 issues at play now, main issue is timing. You should have been able to hit 110km on a flat with NA power.
2nd issue I think that turbo you got is not in the best of shape, that looks like a...
FWIW I welded the wastegate shut on my TD04 and removed the actuator and linkage. never saw the need for it, my egts were always under 1200 at all boost levels
pin holes in the charge pipe is not good, but wont prevent you from building some boost.. you should be able to hit 10psi even with...
thats absolutely not too big for your engine. I have the td04 hl-15g on mine and that worked good but still a little big. Something is not right if you arent making boost, especially if its leaking oil.
My td04 was spooled at idle...
did you do a boost pressure check? ( pressurize the charge...
His reasoning was that he wanted the windshield and interior removed. Keep in mind, his shop is about a hour north of me, so I asked if I could pay for his shop to remove the glass and interior, and that's when it got weird. He said he was uncomfortable to do it because of its age.. I told him...
just a little update.. I really am struggling to find any shops that will work with me, so I'm just doing everything myself extremely slowly lol.. early this year I took what I had to a frame shop in Washington state.., they held onto the truck for a week and a half before calling me and told...
on my 2l/ Td04 , I ran with the untouched fuel setting for a while because I was in the middle of selling my house.. it made about 8-9psi on the stock setting.
after I was more confident ( and replaced the clutch) I turned the fuel screw in until the idle speed started to climb up to 1500rpm...
