I have a 2006 GX470 with nav. also 2.5" lift. Really like it but the stereo/rear camera/map/etc. is terrible. If I add the separate A/C controls to get it out of the stereo system then what are my options for replacing the stereo?
I'm not an audiophile but just like tunes playing at a moderate...
I pulled out the guts of the center console where the armrest should be and installed a Lockerdown safe. Then I made a cushioned cover to put on top of it.
IIRC I had a non-chipped key made to leave in the ignition for towing on my 2006. I used the other key to lock the door using the keyhole once it's closed. Don't forget to turn the ignition off when you stop for the day.
BTW I may be selling my 2006 this summer. Not using it enough to justify...
Keep in mind that whatever you're towing the GX with the towbar should be as level as possible (within 2-3"). On mine it would have been too out of level. So I flipped the baseplate upside down and it came out perfectly level. I had to drill one hole through the frame on each side.
My '06 has some peeling on the roof and on the passenger front door. It had been rattle can sprayed before I bought it so I was aware of the problem. Actually the peeling didn't start until we had a heavy rain and a hard freeze. My plans are this winter to sand it down and spray it with white...
So the question remains "why do you put the transfer case in neutral?"
That disconnects the wheels from the transmission, allowing the car to roll whether in park or neutral. No need to do anything with the transfer case, leave it in high, put transmission in park.
Try turning off the engine before going into Park. Sounds like you may be flat towing? If not there should be no reason to move the transfer case into neutral. That disconnects your wheels from the Park location allowing the car to roll freely.
