Ok, so I currently use the BTToy bluetooth setup to connect my phone to the radio and it works fine, I was going to add a 9-10" carplay screen and just wanted to use it for display only and not have to change my bluetooth connection to the bt toy unit. Anyone know if thats feasible with the aftermarket screens.

Not interested in doing likea tesla style headunit, just want ot add a 10" carplay screen to my jwo panel.

Don't have BT toy but I believe it have input jack and most android auto /carplay display have 3.5 mm output jack too. You need male to male 3.5 mm audio cable and connect between the two.

I want audio to remain through the factory system and the device (phone) with data plan, Only want the screen to run carplay or screen mirror. Unless what youre saying is run the 3.5mm from screen to BT45, then just car play the screen. BT45 still acts on its own as a disc.

Im just not entirely sure what I want to do is feasible. and never used a stand alone screen.

That is exactly what I mean. The screen usually have 3.5 mm output and bt45 have 3.5mm jack input.

Just an FYI if you plan to use Starlink on the road or offroad. I do since there is no cell service at my cabin where I keep my GX470. Since the CarPlay screen uses wifi through your phone in order to have internet through Starlink you need a CarPlay device with a cable connected to your phone. If it uses BT then wifi to connect to your phone then you can't access your Starlink. I have this one and it works with a cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D3TV481P?tag=ihco-20
Or you can use a tablet which offers more apps.

You could go the Joying Android HU route. It's not the Tesla screens. Would offer car play and a direct connection via wifi to starlink

Mine has ML, and navigation, so i dont think those joying are an option for me from my research

Non-nav conversion is the most work and is the most expensive option, but looks the best and gives you the greatest flexibility. What year GX do you have? Non-nav HVAC controls are very hard to find (and expensive if you can find them) for the late 2006+ GX's but much easier to find for the 2003-2005s. I was lucky and found a unicorn set of non-nav controls for my 2007, did the conversion, and added the 9" Joying. It's been a very solid system and sounds great though the OEM Mark Levinson speakers, and was definitely worth the cost and effort.

Mines an '03. And theres nothing wrong with my current set-up, ML still sounds awesome, BT45 connects phone to stereo. I was just looking at being able to have a larger NAV setup. No real reason to swap imho. Just tinkering.

If I went the non-nav conversion it would be to gut the entire audio system and do all aftermarket stuff but theres no need at this point tbh.

in that case, i'd get a normal tablet of your liking, that is capable of loading a Data Only Sim card. Then download one of the many many Car Launcher apps to it. Use that as a faux Car Play setup
