Going to work today, a dump truck in front of me hit a bump on the interstate, dropped some rocks, and one of those rocks smoked by sunroof glass. I thought I got shot doing 60mph down I-10 in New Orleans.

The point of this post is, does anybody know of some kind of sunroof protection? I already loathe my sunroof and wish I didn’t have it. I’ve seen some PPF stuff that claims it protects against rock chips, but who knows? The truck is at the body shop right now getting repaired.

That is extremely unlucky. Do you know how much that's going to cost?
Insurance deductible is $250. Glass is almost a grand alone. Labor for removing the headliner won’t be cheap either. Decided to go ahead and make a claim with insurance.

My sunroof stopped working thankfully in the closed position last year and I assumed the headliner would have to come down for the repair. I took the L and accepted I'm probably never using the sunroof again.

You can remove the glass panel without dropping the headliner. It comes out with some Torx bits. You can probably also find a used sunroof from a junk yard, if not there are several on eBay for around $230. I pulled mine out last year to wrap the seal with some electrical tape to reduce wind noise, it's maybe 15 minutes of work to get it out. So, pretty easy DIY job.

That’s good to know. Unfortunately, the headliner will still have to come down due to all the glass that rolled to the rear of it when it busted. Luckily for me, the shade was closed and didn’t fall into the front seats and on me.

Very unlucky and freak accident! Maybe there's a sunroof visor that would work to help deflect stones. Or a good excuse for a fancy roof rack.

Thought about the deflector. Wonder if it would work.

Crazy thing, the rock somehow completely missed my Frontrunner roof rack and hit the glass! Might figure out something to go between the slats to prevent this again.
