The factory front recovery points are fine. I have never heard of one failing that wasn't rusted badly.

Purchased 2016 GX, wet floors, can’t figure it out

I had a vehicle once that started to get wet carpets after a rain. After MUCH investigating and head scratching, it turned out that it had a little rust along the top edge of the windshield. The rust had crept under the windshield glue and it wasn't really sealed any more. Water was getting in...

    GX460 & GXOR B.S. thread

I have wheeled with a buddy in a 200. My GX is definitely more nimble and has a better turning radius. It's a bit lighter too. (BTW my DD is an LX570. I haven't wheeled it, but I definitely feel the larger size in parking lots etc.)

I'd hit it with Fluid Film, stops the rust from progressing. You don't want a rubberized coating over rust, it will keep going (dunno what your Amish guy is using).

Yes. There aren't any other wires or sensors at the front wheel in any case.

I had headlight system warnings when I had broken front wheel sensor wire.

Conventional wisdom is that the ARB air lockers are more robust than the e-lockers, but also more problematic to operate. And I would agree. I have had ARB air locker on previous rigs. They worked more often than not, but keeping the air system working properly was a challenge at times. And a...

My case was probably rather rare, as the sensor wire was frayed from getting pounded by the loose end of the sway bar, due to the missing bolt. I can show you the frayed spot along the wire, but it was just a "duh" diagnosis. That Car Care Nut video that Cold Iron posted above would be a better...

Awesome. Scott B., the leader of the Tread Lightly Off Road recently retired from the Cook County highway department, so his knowledge of the roads and tracks there probably rivals yours. I'm guessing you know each other, he fought for the Border to Border trail in Cook County too. For the...

Build Well I gone and done it: 2018 Premium Build

I was in the Grand Marais and Grand Portage area with the Tread Lightly Off Road Group (look them up on Facebook), doing a Memorial weekend trail ride with military veterans that ride along with us. It is getting crowded up there, the trip back down the north shore I noticed every state park...

Build Well I gone and done it: 2018 Premium Build

Here is a little story that might be useful to someone else in the future. Last week I was on a light wheeling trip in NE MN, and while on a forest two-track got a bunch of warning lights and a "Check BSM" message on the display. The GX also wouldn't go into low range, which hurt my wheeling...

Yeah I had that headlight warning one time when I forgot to plug the wheel sensor back in after some suspension work.

    460 on 35's

Oh yeah, forgot about the BMC. And I wouldn't do it without regearing either. I know people have run 35s without regearing but that severely impacts your towing capacity and puts a lot of additional stress on the transmission. I tried doing the half-assed bumper trim etc. but it just wasn't...

    460 on 35's

I've been running 35x11.5x17s for several years now. It's about as big as you can feasibly go without major alterations. Not sure I would do it for a DD but I am happy with it for a dedicated trail rig. Not sure which "things" you are asking about, it impacts lots of things. You need the right...

Another Skid Plate Discussion (C4 & Budbuilt)

Biggest clearance issue for skids on the GX compared to a 4R is for the KDSS sway bar movement, which is "disconnected" in low range crawling and free to move around on the drivers side.
