Also western vs. eastern wheeling - dry trail conditions seem to all but negate the need for lockers, and ATRAC/MTS both work well in those situations. When there is a big traction differential (i.e., one tire on wet/slimy leaves, the other on a dry rock, or your experience of coming of a creek on granite steps when your tires are wet) lockers are needed. I've also found the older ATRAC systems like mine do not handle diagonal spin very well at all (one tire on each axle in low traction or no traction), although perhaps the more modern MTS does better. I wheeled in a Subaru before getting a GX and diagonal spin was the Achilles' heel of those vehicles off-road.
Everyone in my group thinks I am triple locked. Byt I have made deliberate mods to maximize force applied by the abs pump.

if you can only afford to do either CC or MTS, which would you do first?
CC is the easiest to install (for older models, pre 2020s). If you do a lot of slow crawling up and down steep gradients, CC is great. I use MTS more often than CC however, especially on sand. I think I would do MTS first as you can adjust according to what type of terrian you are on. CC is only for specific situations.

Eastern wheeling (which encompasses my native Ozarks) is if anything more damaging on stuff than Western wheeling. Trails are often wet and covered in slick/slimy leaves, there is way more mud, the trails are narrower, they often snake between trees or bush, they are more washed out as we get so much more rain, and creek/water crossings are way deeper. My ATRAC engages fairly often here, despite almost never engaging out West. I've resorted to bringing my chainsaw along on local trails and open up fairly long sections so they can be wheeled without body damage :).
It's the rock gardens and boulders we have to worry about out west! And yeah, we have the threading through trees and squeezes between vertical rocks.
Mud, leaf slick trails and rain is not in my vocabulary. 😁

MTS is by far the easiest.
Spend the hundred dollars or so, pull your glove box, plug in the your new MTS module. Screw your glove box back in and your done!
With Crawl Control, you have to pull your center console, which isn't hard at all, then you have to do a little driving dance after install to set it.
