In the interest of getting this information out for possible future searchers, I figured I would throw up some pics of a cheap replacement latch I found for my 1994 HZJ75.

My original (non-locking) latch broke one cold morning when I opened the box. After some cursory searching in this section, I found I wasn't alone, and specifically referenced this older thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/70-series-tech/466308-glove-box-latch.html

Off of ebay AU, the part would have been $130 (inflated due to shipping, obviously). Locally I might have been able to source this for around $50 or so.

I took a chance on a latch that looked just like my broken on from ebay that was out of an 84-88 Corolla.

It bolted up and works perfectly. I'm not sure what a wrecking yard would charge, but this was $7 + Free Shipping from ebay.

Some pics of the new one, and it side by side with the old broken latch:

Lined up without an issue, and matches well enough.

If anything, this might help us NA folks, as Corollas are a bit more common than 70's in the junk yards.

At one point last summer I thought the glovebox latch on my truck was broken. Closer inspection showed that the hinge pin had come out of one side. It was a bit tricky to put it all back together but once fixed it's been fine ever since.

Not disagreeing with the OP. Just keep in mind that our LCs were made to be fixed.

Bringing this up from the dead, mine broke this AM, pin bent and sheared the right support nub. Ill be updating with part numbers and pictures, hopefully @cruiseroutfit has stock. Like previously stated, ebay AU for 30 bucks but shipping is double.

Thank you for response, also need tachometer rpm gauge for my LJ71 engine 2LT. Thanks a lot my friend..
You will have to google search like I did. They are called Bundeera in Australia ,Prado in Japan and Landcruiser 11 in parts of South America.

I've got the same issue. Pin came out of place on a side, mechanic used extra force and I got a broken latch. Fortunately, partnumber is still available in my country and got to buy it for around US$20. Partnumber is 55560-90K00-C0; not sure if it's available in US/Canada.

Image borrowed from google results for "55560-90K00-C0", as reference only.
