alright here we go! i finally got my lv down from mikesta in WA. this is going to be a slow build as i am a starving student and all but i won't take any short cuts.

here is a run down of the basics for what is going into it, its all toyota! ( except the steering box...)
-3fe motor from a 89' fj62 from cruiser outfitters
-brand new h55f transmission from the dealership
-fj60 front axle, full float rear from Australia
-- arb's and 4:88's front and rear, cruiser outfitters
-a/c
-warn m1200 winch
- and what ever else comes up that is cool

this all came from my 40 that i was restoring but this seemed a bit cooler to have.
i haven't decided fully on the gearing and wether or not i am going to spring it over or do OME....
i'll be post pictures soon as there is some decent weather to pull it out.

not sure your fab skilz but I am building my lv somewhat like yours on a few counts I am going with an fj62 rear axle but went with a 78 fj40 front axle with the sky widening kit to match up to the width of the fj62 rear axle. otherwise you are going to have to out board the front spring mounts. also on the suspenstion I went with a 5" alcan spring and shackle lift instead of OME which I felt was too short and a SOA which I felt would be too tall. mine will hopefully hit the road this summer but good luck with your build and post better pics that I do :)

thanks, i had the same thoughts as you as far as the front end, i have already done that work on my old 40 to fit the 60 axle before so hopefully i can recreate it better this time.

i have been looking into different ways to strip the body down and get rid of the rust, and some here in town mentioned a company here that strips and galvanizes the beams for freeway over passes. now i am not going to galvenize the body.... but i thought about having the all the body parts submerged in the acid tanks that they have. has any one done this or know of some one that has?
-mike

I think the advantages of acid dipping are that there are no abrasives, so it can't warp the body panels. It also takes everything off.

The disadvantages to acid dipping is that it takes everything off--so if you've got some seriously rusted areas, you might lose them altogether with acid (whereas a sandblaster would simply stop before they were too lost). The other disadvantage I know of for acid is that it's really hard to get it out of all the cracks/crevices. What this means for many people is that they put it all back together, paint it, and then the acid seeps out of the cracks/crevices and messes up the new paint job.

FWIW, I'll sand or soda (most likely) blast my 45 body (but I'll do it myself).

ok it's finals week in school... i haven't been studying like i should but i have made some progress in the garage. here are some pics. i have be wrestling with waht motor to put in a nd the 3FE won out and droped right in, all i had to do was slot the frame mounts like a later model 40 and it went in perfect. i also got the 5 spd in that took a little work and some help from the plasma reactor. the floors already need work whats a little more right? this week end i think i am going to put in the 4wd shift linkage so i can finish chopping the floor and the dog house up...

i have been planning on grafting in a late model 40 frie wall but not sure if the booster will fit... pics of 3FE's in 40's would be helpful.

I'm also interested in a 3VZFE in the 40 if anyone has one!!

Gr8ful.....do you still have your drivetrain up in 'dem hills????

Heres what i am doing with my 40. I need the later firewall for brake booster and column due to fj 60 steering and diffs. Body mount was also rusted out so am doing that at the same time.
It's not that hard if you measure everything carefully and take your time. you will also need the latter pedal assembly

it's been a while... lots of work and school not so much cruiser. over the last 2 months i have repaired the glove box, put a 77' pedal assembly in and also a 77' steering wheel. i have also found more rust than i like in some pretty bad places... oh well it's a cruiser right? here are some pictures.
