SoCal 80's M&G Dates: POLL **CLOSED**

Ok, it looks like mid-September is works the best for everyone ( or at least those who have sent me PM's). So please pick a date and we will go with the highest number of requests:

  • Sept 14th
  • Sept 21

Once we settle on a date (lets give it till Saturday) i will get working on a site. Depending on the # of trucks and booked sites i will see what i can find. Again, as a plan "B" i am working on the grassy field in Green Valley Lake (nearby fishing, hiking and a couple of miles from the entrance to Deep Creek/Crab Flats).

Side note: I did some checking and could not find any open group sites in the SBNF that i was able to reserve for the weekend of the 14th. I did find Coon Creek OPEN for the weekend of the 21st. Looks like there is a little 6 mile trail to it, tables, etc. I took the liberty of reserving it ($9.00 cancellation fee so no big deal). It says 10 veh, 25 person max but i am not sure how well that is governed or if we will even get more than 10 trucks to show up. Still working on my plan "B" but wanted let the group know what i was able to come up with so far.

From what i can gather there appears to be an overflow area nearby so perhaps we can park some rigs there....

Voted for the 14th only because I 'might' still go with a different group on a 4th or 5th annual run up to Monache Meadows the weekend of the 21st depending on how I feel. Only concern is the longer drive to that outing on the knee. Local will trump the Monache trip for sure to be safe.

I can do either one if I'm not kidnapped and/or beheaded in Mexico. Again I'll be in my FJ60.

Voted for the 21st to allow a bit more time from Labor Day. Whatever the date ends up to be I'm going to have to request the time off. Hopefully, we'll see everyone there.

You might want to look at Horse Spgs Group Camp Ground off of 3N14. It is on the backside of the mountain and probably a few degrees warmer but it's also away from the riff raff and incredible desert views. It is near a great hiking and biking trail in Coxey Meadow as well as some good wheeling on 3N17.

If I can make it, it could only be on the 14th. Crash up derby in Jacumba on the 21st...

If the :princess: gives me the pass I can only do the 14th. Will be surfing in the 100 wave challenge on the 21st.

Such a rough life you have. Not!

I have driven past it and it looks like a good spot. That said I don't believe the sites can be reserved. I would hate to plan for that spot to find out it is booked up or partially booked and not have any room for the group ( especially since there will be little to no way to communicate any change in plans to the group). Again just my thoughts. If the group wants to roll the dice I am totally good with it. The place I reserve is six miles on dirt off the 38 and we will have the whole area. We should be able to keep any questionable folks (and jeeps) out!

Ok it looks like my plan B will be a no go. The museum field I wanted to use apparently has some insurance requirements that make using it or our purposes out of reach. Per veh cost will be roughly $50. Too expensive.

If we go with the 21st then I'm in. If we do the 14th then I'm out. I will be up in Bishop Creek from the 11th-16th on a fishing/camping trip.

A couple of photos of Coon Creek. Looks like a OK spot:

Well, it looks like we are on for the 21st @ Coon Creek! I will update next week or so to see who is going, potluck stuff and the like. Also, Hangar 24 Brewery is right on the way up...So keep that in mind!
