Okay, you guys obviously have a source for soft tops. You wanna share with the rest of the world?

Very nice collection.

call me crazy, but I would rather have two different 40s, than 4 identical ones.

For myself I'd rather have a mix (Since you can only drive one at a time)... Perhaps he has a big family...:D

I know when ever a car salesman would ask my mother what color car she wanted she would answer any color as long as it was beige. She would have been a happy camper if she was looking for a 40 series in the Middle East. I remember seeing Marv Specter's film clip of his trip to a junk yard in Saudia Ararbia. Land Cruiser 4X series as far as you could see and maybe one or two white ones all the rest were dune beige. I have a couple of nice dune beige hard top FJ40s. If I have the money I would go to Saudi Arabia and get a short/mid/long wheel base soft top models plus a FJ45 pickup to add to the collection. I had seen some amazing cruisers pictured here from that part of the world.

I would try and drive two at a time. Just get one RH drive and the other LH and have at it.

Import!

I get excited when I see these photos of these cruisers all over the world, especially in dry places. But when I start poking around on the google machine, it always seems like the importing of such a thing is IMPOSSIBLE. I think you could save your pennies to cover the trip and the search and the purchase and the bribes (lived overseas for nearly 2 years in a 3rd world country) but when you get home can you insure/license/drive the thing here in the Estados Unidos??
:bang:

I was told that junk-yard in Saudi Arabia is no more--it was sold to some Chinese nationals who crushed everything and sent it to China to be made into rebar. The last of several other good repositories were also purchased and ended up similarly in recent years.

It's nice to see someone well-connected in the KSA cares enough to preserve a little heritage. It is rumored that within the very large royal family there are some other well-cared-for examples--but of course hidden behind tall walls and gates. Often wonder what gems you would see if you could survive a helicopter ride over a few of the palaces--anyone remember what Saddam's sons had for wheels?

Someone posted some pictures recently of a KSA junkyard that had plenty of salvagable 40s and 45s in it. Someone could make money filling a container and exporting it here. My guess is they have some very strict export rules or tariffs. Though I believe Proffit's imports new 70 series bodies from KSA somehow. I wonder if the rules are different for new vs used auto parts?
