The block and head are done, will be picking up from machine shop tomorrow. I have been using this down time to get me parts for this rebuild. Was able to source most parts with a reputable seller that we know, on this side of the pond. They did however screw up on the con rod bearings. We made two attempts to get them in but I kept receiving 4 sets instead of 6. On the third attempt, I was told that another motor uses same bearings and that the supplier would ship two more sets to complement the 4 sets that I have. I asked for a refund and shipped those 4 sets back a second time. I am now in search of a set of 2h conrod bearings, standard size, mark 1.
Besides the usual vendors out in the middle east and Australia, is there anyone else that can supply these in a timelier fashion?
I am going to be stuck waiting for these bearing for at least a couple weeks now.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Ok, back from the shop!
Will mask and paint the block and head this afternoon.
Lots of work needs doing.

Gave the block and head a s***ty high temp paint job. Will chase all the threaded holes as well.

Rods at shop for small end replacement and hone. I will be starting on the assembly any minute now.

Rotating assembly is in! Measured oil clearances, they are all in spec! Great so far. Temporarily installed cam as well. Feels good.

Dropped off the connecting rods for small end bush replacement and hone. Should have those back tomorrow. Next is gapping rings and getting pistons in.

Nice work. Sorry to hi Jack but useful information for some. When I rebuilt my 13bt a previous ship installed the con rods/honed.
When I took my parts to the machine shop I used he showed me how easy those part are to mess up and what the previous shop did wrong. Maybe this will help others.

Here’s the bad one: you can see the oil path is rolled over smooth. Measured it was not completely round.

Compared to the correct way. They need pressed in correctly and the right tools to hone without getting it out of round. You can see the squared off profile for the oil path.

They also need to make sure they are pressed in correctly with the right tool or it can get scuffed, in crooked all sorts of issues.
These grooves are problematic and can cause spun bearings.

Got the rods back, mounted the pistons, gapped the rings and then put them on. Now waiting for the last of the conrod bearings.

Making progress on the motor. I should have this in the frame rails in a couple days. Got a new toyo headgasket on, and a brand new oem oil pump.

I'll be keeping the turbo for who knows what future project I might end up with. Or my 22r....or who the hell knows.

Nice.. I pootle about all of Australia without a turbo - havent met a sand dune yet that my HJ47 wont happily climb, engage tractor mode and relax as it makes its way up. No turbo required!
