80W-90 gear oil is ~ the same viscosity as 20W-50 motor oil, so other than having all of the wrong additives, not an improvement. 140W gear oil is thicker, but 60W motor oil would be a better choice?

@Texican Braswell has me sweating lack of ZDDP in my 31 Year old flat tapped 231,000 mile motor with this oil!

So wow. 225 miles and it's down about 1/4 quart.

I'm thrilled. It's running much better too.....imagine that.

Update, I think I am at about a quart per 250 miles. It's hard to tell. My records are spotty.

I bought Mobile1 15w-50 to start working into the mix due to the thickness and the ZDDP in the oil.

Cruiser is running awesome, getting a solid 12 mpg and I can't see any smoke.
