No one is making anything up, it's been done multiple times as retrofit and Toyota literally built it that way on all 105's. Now whether it is a actual worthwhile upgrade or not is a different discussion

All of the connectors on that subharness are available new (I have them in stock) and could build a new subharness however it would be more expensive then buying from a used parts supplier.
