I guess you could say that is Not your normal, average everyday white guy build. This is my buddy Colt's truck. Needless to say, its going to be SICK. Its a slow moving build, but I will try to keep this updated throughout the rest of the build.

We're dropping a Cummins 4BT into this 86' xtra cab. Running D60 front and 14B rear.

I have done a few of these swaps, and this one is going to be the coolest one yet when its done.

Motor is from a Frito Lay van. Its bolted to a TH400/NP205. Basically we moved the cab back on the frame 5" to make room, and to get a better placement on the 800lb beast to keep it behind the front axle to allow it to climb better and keep the weight centered. It also allows us to have a 38" front driveshaft. We have played with the idea of a 203/205 doubler, but I honestly don't think its going to be needed with 400ft/lbs of torque out of the diesel. I recommended just running the 205 by itself with the Lowmax 3:1 gears. This setup has an adapter(that was too short) that will clock the 205 flat. So, we cut the center of the cab out and stuffed the entire drivetrain up to get a flat skid even with the frame rails.

Today we busted out the motor mounts, and mocked up a temporary crossmember to hold everything in place until I can build a more permanent skid. These motors require a 10 degree tilt to make sure the tranny pan is level, so that is why they sit in the engine bay cocked at 10*.

I finish welded the front spring mount into place, set the rear pinion angle and burned the perches into place. Next time out there, I will be building the front engine cage, working a dovetail front into the mix, and moving the turbo down with the 6BT manifold mount to clear the hood.

Anyway, here are some pics.

This is the adapter that needs to be lengthened for the 205. Basically the 32 spline adapter sleeve bottoms out before to sit flush. We put it in so we could at least mock everything up. This is what we need to iron out before I can build the crossmember and Tcase mount.

Great project! Moving that 4bt back probably allowed you drop it lower in the frame since you won't have the diff/oil clearance issue. It looks like from your pics that the 4bt came with a ford exhaust manifold but a GM adapter? Interesting combo.

Sounds like you'll be turning up the 4bt just a little too. I'm running about 150hp in my heavy fj60 and while I don't "need" any more power, I look forward to bumping it up a little more. It's just too easy to get more power out of these engines.

Look forward to see how this progresses.

Way to go Scott!

is there a reason you didn't use the fluid filled motor mounts? I would think that you might shake the fillings out of your teeth with poly mounts...

Excellent buildup! This mini is going to have some serious balls when it's done.

NICE BUILD...... I was going to do a 4BT in my mini truck but changed my mine and i am now doing the 4BT in my 75 FJ40. l was going to use the fluid filled mounts but i cant find any in here in Portland OR. Those poly mounts look strong. Nice work keep it up.:cheers:To the 4BT...

Lords Mounts are designed to run flat. They shear at a 5 degree angle. Not a good idea to run them in a 4x4 rig that is going to see some serious trails.

Great Build!

two words..... Bad Ass!!!!

Hey Scotty, I bought your 4bt and TH400 from Torrey. I was wondering if you could tell me what injectors are in it? Stock? Got 4 in the motor and 2 in a BD Performance box labeled 215hp injectors for 6bt. Any help would be great. It found a new home in a 76 FJ40 in Ft. Morgan, Co.

This is so cool in so many ways.
