how can you tell its a different hood?

The rubber bumpers were replaced in 75 with a metal bracket with a small pad on top. 75 the wipers moved to the bottom of the windshield with the motor mounted to the outside. Because of this the hinges on the windshield changed which changed the location of the pad and hook on the hood.
Prior to the 72 model the hood was two pieces. This is a one piece hood.

but the windshield bumpers and hooks are not correct to '72

What's not correct? Seen the bumper pads bolted on either way but correct style 69-74. Hooks fastened forward is correct until the change in 75. Unless things were changed that is a one piece hood 72-74 models.

windshield bumpers on a '72 in OEM configuration should be the other way around - just saying

There have been threads on the orientation of the bumpers in the 40/55 section. Since these are held on with two studs that bolt on either way it hard to prove which is right but agree think it should be the other way. Still doesn't change the fact a hood set up this way were only used 72-74 and not correct for a 78.

Didn’t know FJ Cruiser came in Mad Max edition. Very cool. Wonder what the metal grate window covers are for? Rocks, beer bottles perhaps?

Looks like it's setup for border patrol!!! Is that thing painted with bedliner?

Uuuuuhhhhhh Zombies, right?! "it looks like bed liner" Surely a special zombie proof coating with light and sound absorbing capabilities to elude detection.

I figured with the grate over just the rear windows there was a interior barrier protecting the front. Figure was part of a PC zombie relocating program verses detroying them.:meh:
