Also not ticking people off is a good strategy for long term visibility for a car company.

Offer lots of trims and specs to appeal to the broadest base of current buyers, to get them in and happy and then buy again....(Was looking at tundras/tacos, but the new ones are so wrong.....so I'm out as a new Toyota pickup buyer.... forever most likely)

Like I said, no one has ever asked me what I want, and I'm looking....

I'll have a NA V6 with a tried and true 200k mile capable 6 speed auto, 32" tires and a rugged cloth interior and none of the nannies, screens, LED headlights, and gross use of exterior plastics that are far too overdone

That could be done for $40k. All of the expensive bits are shared across so many platforms that the cost per unit has to be minimum
You’re probably not going to find exactly what you’re looking for ever again but the current Frontier Pro 4X would be pretty close, followed by the Tacoma TRD OR. I recently went for test drives in a Tacoma TRD OR, a Canyon AT4, and. Ranger Lariat. (Wanted to try a Raptor, dealer wouldn’t let me… their loss, not mine) Out of those options I felt like the Taco was the best in terms of total package.

If the previous generation land cruiser was the FJ60 (as an extreme example) and the 80 series, 100 series, and 200 series never existed, I think a lot more people would be tickled pink with the new 250.
Idk, I'm a die hard 200 series fan and picked the 250 over it.

They don't have to mark up the price to get the good engine, they just choose to for whatever reason.
I did not say they "had to", I said they "would". I am with you, but their reason is called capitalism.

Their market research is probably targeted on urban customers infrequently use the "U" part of their SUV, as opposed to people like me who use the "U" more than the "S".
100% yes. I would add suburban women customers dropping off kids for school and running to the closest Starbucks.

My wife and I counted at least 15 Jeeps on our 2 mile drive home from yesterday. In a town of <20,000 people. Most were women driven, had N-fab steps, angry eyes, pink accents, etc. I couldn't help but realize how brilliant Chrysler/Daimler/FCA/Stellantis was in making and selling such a poorly-built vehicle that is vastly inferior to let's say a Subaru Outback for the daily uses of their typical customer. Kudos to them for knowing how to print money.

Also, kudos to my wife, for having better taste, and choosing something much less gaudy and much more practical than a Jeep for hauling our kids around in.

I’d argue that the US companies are very good at understanding how dumb their customers are and making sure they have a s***ty vehicle to correspond to the dumb scale of US cars buyers.

Toyota does the same thing except to a different yet equally dumb demographic.

😂😂

(I’m jesting…. Kinda. Sorry, not sorry. 😂😂)

Interesting points made in LC250 vs GX550. He even held posting the video for 1yr to see if Toyota made an update.

That's the list except payload. He forgot payload.

I'm curious to see if Toyota makes mechanical changes next year. The 80 series saw major mechanical changes at two year intervals, in 1993 (engine, transmission, transfer case, rear disc brakes) and 1995 (transmission, exhaust, supercharger). 100 and 200 series saw in-series changes, though not as dramatic. I'm skeptical that the Toyota of today, who missed the mark on something as obvious as diff size, is engaged enough to make major in-series corrections. I'd love to be proven wrong.

I think what a good chunk of people here want is the LC body and the GX underpinnings haha.

Sure I can see how someone might prefer the LC styling but you’re paying almost the same amount and getting way less. That’s really the only thing I can’t grasp. I’d understand if the LC cost $20,000 less than a GX but from what I’m seeing they are within a few thousand dollar of each other. I guess I will have to drive both for myself though so maybe I’m missing something

The mass majority of people don’t look under the hood. If it drives, it drives in their mind.

Looks matter much more to the majority of the normies out there.

I just priced a LC with premium package with SDM and its around $72.6k and a GX OT (not +) is around $75.8k. The LC was package to get close to the GX.

However, the GX OT will still have an OB compressor. I think EKDSS is superior to SDM since it's automatic. Additionally, the 2025 OT and OT+ was given a 1inch lift from 2024. LC tow is 6k and GX is 9k

I'm also in the camp of the GX looks better.

1958 vs GX Overtrail. SDM is not necessary IMO.

I was in Moab this past week, saw 5 LC250’s in town decked out for battle. Saw one GX, at the chic fil a drive thru in Grand Junction lol

I watched this. For a brief summary, his three main complaints were: Size of fuel tank too small, rear diff too small, front axles too weak. Ground clearance and approach/departure angles also inferior compared to FJ Cruiser.
