Yesterday I went to a Toyota Dealership to find out how much a new Starter Motor would be. AU$1,300 odd, only one in Australia and it was in Townsville. :D
In America US$129.55

I paid AU$275.00 for Chinese one from a Chinaman on eGay, second trip out and it shorted its self, killing the Alternator then the UHF Radio. Unusually for a Chinaman he replaced it, no questions asked, and the newy works.

I'm now on the hunt for a new Toyota Alternator from America. Where do I look?

Next time take a vacation to the US. The airplane fare would be cheaper! Did you try looking into the prices in the big city toyota dealers like Melbourne? The freight would have been pricey but at 1300 AUS,it would have been cheaper in the end.

This was in Melbourne, Chadstone to be precise.
Freight from one Toyota Dealer to another costs nothing.

Sounds like you should be in the Toyota Parts business Johnathon. Could be very profitable for you.

You guys got it good on that big island too. Half of us stupid americans don't know what the word diesel is so nobody make them for anything but big trucks. The only diesel ever offered in a Toyota Truck in the US was for a brief period in the 80's.

....and the sun barely shines 3 months of the year! :D

But doesn't everybody make $200,000usd a year there?

Well, for about 2months the sun ALWAYS shine!!! :D, and we dont have any sun 2months...

Actually, the the average income is 50.000 usd... And when 40% goes to taxes...

But the only medical expenses we have are dental, and we get 100% salary when were sick for about a year. Then we lose some, if we get an injury and need to re-educate ourself for a different type of job we get 80% of our old income while we go to school (max 3yrs).

Lots of strange things over here...:censor:

With that crap im surprised you only pay 40% taxes

Socialism:rolleyes:

huh

just post here on the board, i'm sure if you use paypal or something, someone here in the US will buy a starter and mail it out to you, heck, i'd do it...would shipping kill the deal?

my friend is moving to norway, he's been there a few times before to visit family, it's cool to hear of the differences from someone who has seen the US and Norway....

My relative just bought a car in Norway and told me that they pay taxes on the cars based on the mileage driven per year and have to pay extra for additional miles that were not accounted.

definitely different there. my cousin jarle went to germany last year to buy his car because even with driving it back it was almost half what he would've paid in norge. registering it was a bit of hassle though...had to wait almost two months:eek:

Thats not correct, we pay insurance based on mileage. We say how many miles were going to drive, and if we drive more we have to call the insurance company and pay the difference. :)

Depending on the car 40-70% of the price is taxes. It shouldnt take long to get the plates. Usually there is a problem if you dont have the proper paperwork.

We also have road-tax, which for the moment is 600usd per year. And you dont get to keep your plates if you dont pay it.

Try looking in your own backyard for Nippondenso dealers ,OEX and AED.
I only paid $320 for a 120 amp 1HZ diesel alternator and Ive seen the starters for $400.
The Hilux wont be more than that.

I've looked through the little Yellow Pages and the regular Yellow Pages.

But before I put in a new or reconditioned Alternator, I need to get the Wiring tested by the Auto Electrician, and whilst there I'll ask them to quote me on the repairs. - They've got to beat AU$581 + Freight + Tax for a newy from Japan4x4. :)

Funny Jonathan....

Even having CDan less than an hour away I still have to source the occasional part from Australia for my faux-Hilux.

The prices I've gotten from Castle Hill Toyota have always been good, other than the hassle of waiting for them to clear customs, I've got no complaints.

If I weren't trying to sell it as a complete 22R-E (with all the accessories) I'd offer to take it off of mine and sell it to you.
