Hello,
I’ve seen a lot of yellow cruisers, some bright yellow, some a basic yellow, and some brownish yellow(?) I believe it’s called mustard? The point of the questions is I’m debating painting my cruiser oem yellow. I’m not sure of the color code or brightness. Or what it really looks like (I know pictures can change hue. )

May I ask the difference?
Slightly different color code. I just learned this a couple of years ago when a friend bought a mustard ‘75 and I compared it to my ‘77.

I can't personally guarantee this is accurate, but I pulled the pic from here on MUD. I only see one color code for yellow.

You'll almost certainly see lots of different yellow hues and its because of a myriad of things.

single stage versus two stage
washout due to sun exposure
inexact science of paint formulas
removal of certain materials such as lead which is no longer being used
prep and tint of the sealer beneath the base color
heat and humidity during paint and curing
...add your favorite variants

I think your best bet is to first decide what you want to do in the big categories.... Are you doing single
or two stage with clear coat. Then decide if overriding factors like cost are going to limit you to a particular
paint line/supplier. And finally who can you get the paint from ... are they reliable and will be around if you
are doing it yourself and need to ask questions.

@dmaddox has some good color on his 40. I have a similar color (see build in my sig line) but am not using a leaded paint which was available to him. Pick a yellow from a thread on ih8mud and see if you can even get the materials the other person used.

While very professional made this is not a color chart from Toyota. The 531 on the under the hood plaque really proves that. Unfortunately Toyota is not big on sharing information. Muscle cars from the 60s and 70s the small details like small marks done on the product line are available.

Would be interesting to compare the ambulance door header off a 1/75-12/75. See how it compares to the doors I know if from a 75. Unfortunately they are stored in two different garages not close to each other. I've had both since the 1990s. I disassembled the hard top so top of the header never been exposed to sun light. Doors still have the cards. Really curious what the difference is between 531 and 532.

I was thinking of getting a can of 532 from cruiser Corp just to see how it would look.
These step/sliders were done with the Cruiser Corps 532 rattle can. IIRC 532 is a little deeper in color than 531.

@77mustard40 mine is a 77 as well. So the 532 is more of the darker mustard than a bright yellow in your opinion?
The colors are so close they need to be side by side to see the difference, or at least for this blind man
