That is probably the most original and factory complete engine bay I have seen!

Would you believe $600 I offered 5 but he countered with 6 so I gave in. He said the last guy had offered him $200. I am pretty excited.
 
UNBELIEVABLE...you have 4 times that in good metal and engine parts.......plus 1 owner and 66k??!!
 
Wow, I paid 6x that amount for mine and it's not as complete and factory as yours! That's about all bone stock and complete! I'm sure it'll ride again! Curious to know your frame number to see how close yours is to mine, seeing as mine started red too. Post it up when you get a chance. And what's the build date? Is that a factory AM radio?

That's just not right! How can you sleep at night? ;) Seriously an incredible find- better than Storage Wars! And the Goats need their own reality show! Best thread in a long time.
 
I also noticed this little difference in my FJ's. My 76 has lockout hubs. What is the story on these? Good? Bad?

Those are the factory drive flanges. A lot of dealers replaced them with lockouts upon arrival. I'll take them if you don't want them ;p

They basically mean that the front axle is turning all the time, but they are solid.

Seriously though...that is probably the nicest, most original, FJ40 of any year model, to have been found completely neglected and purchased for an insanely low price of $600...we all pray to be the ones to find such a deal (especially us purists) so I hope you can appreciate the magnitude of what you just accomplished.

I do not know what your plans are, but I sincerely hope that they are to truly preserve/restore this '77 to keep it as original as it is now, or if crazy enough to take it apart, it would only be to bring it back to the way it was when purchased back in 1977. I know, I have said this before to other new owners, but it would be a crime to modify such an original survivor.

If you did have mods planned, then please sell this to someone who will respect the originality of what you have found, and use that money to find another, less original rig, to mod the hell out of :)

Or, if you want to make a buck, I'll offer you double what you paid for it, plus a reasonable amount for your time and effort so far :D

I've got one that has been modified about as fas as I would ever take one (OME suspension, locker, Ramsey winch, different interior, desmogged, Weber, etc....). My plans are to leave this one alone and leave it all stock. I agree it's too complete to mess up.
