Just an FYI...

The seal on the adapter is actually the same seal as the transmission tail housing. Not the same seal as the input shaft of the transfer case. The adapter plate copies the transmission features.

This thread definitely has my gears turning. I was all set on going diesel but I got screwed out of a good deal on a 6bt and I in no way shape or form wanted to spend $10k on just the swap parts from literally the worst online vendor I've ever heard of. Having Wits end stamped on the parts is definitely making me reconsider things.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I don’t have the resources that guy had but there are some things I can do. It’s easy not to make the same mistakes because I only do the manufacturing.

Slowly I’ll start making the airbox, throttle linkage and pedal assembly. Baby steps. The adapter and input shaft is the easy part.
 
If you’re going down the rabbit hole of auto adapter, I wouldn’t bother with anything short of a 6l80. If the A750 could be made to work it would be a thing of beauty, but that’s been bear to death. No easy solutions.
 
I would really like a p pumped 24v Cummins rather than the usual 6bt, that would be sweet! But the vp44 is fine, just gotta keep it lubed, and fed with a nice lift pump.

4L80E was what I was thinking. Understand most people want the simplicity of the manual but for me drivability is more important. This is one of those if we are on a trip and I become incapacitated can my wife operate the car things. Good controllers are out there for about $500 or you could convert to a manual valve body (I know not auto really now but no clutch so easier to drive). NLXTACY builds a lot of cool stuff and this is a great option for many people so not complaining. Just never hurts to ask for what you want :) For now I'll just wait and see what comes first...diesel option for an auto trans or the turbo kit. I'd be happy either way.

Yeah dude it’s sucks, I recently moved to so cal from WA and I can’t believe how restrictive everything is. I was going to try to be legit and register my cars here but since I have my cars registered to my family’s address in WA and the landcruiser is too old for emissions there, I’m thinking about just renewing for as long as I can get away with it :( I’ve heard getting smog done on obd1 is a nightmare here.

The weird thing is diesels older than 1996 (?) are smog exempt in CA.
 
I left California about 13 years ago but back then the rule was you could do an engine swap but the new engine had to be same model year or newer than the vehicle it was going into and it would have to pass the emissions test designed for that vehicle. If that's still the case it's unlikely you'd be able to make a diesel work. California was a nightmare to deal with for any engine modifications back then and I hear it's worse today. I put CARB approved headers on my 2001 Dodge Ram and I had a 2 hour argument with the testing center about why they weren't illegal even though I had the CARB sticker right on the hood like they said I was supposed to.

Best bet it to contact CA DMV or CARB and ask them what the rules are now. Be careful registering out of state. Law in Cali gives you so many days to register your vehicles in state if that is the primary area of operation and the fines can be high if you get caught.
 
Could someone with better access to transmissions in a 80 series have a look at this. I have done a bunch of research and it appears that a Jeep Cherokee bell housing should bolt to a land cruiser trans thus giving us access to cheap engine adapters.

Five speed manual in the older pickups and 4Runners can be hybridized with the AX15. Not really useful for LC’s.
