I've converted my FJ40 to power steering from an FJ60, all I need is the draglink. I've called/emailed BudBuilt SEVERAL times over the past 8 months (!) and even though I've talked to him on the phone and given him my cc info, I still haven't heard if and when he can ship them, it's been weeks now and I can't even get anyone on the phone or get an email returned. I give up.

Who else sells draglinks and TRE's for this conversion?

Mike

Not sure if they have them but a call to 4plus or ruffstuff might be worthwhile.

Marlin crawler also. They would probably build it to fit.

It's not really a difficult part to build. Is there a 4x4 build shop near you? It's basically a piece of DOM tube threaded on each end for the appropriate TRE. The length measurement is the most critical.

Yes, MC will make you what you need, they have made me a few in the past on this exact conversion.

I would also check with Kurt and his crew @cruiseroutfit - they are incredibly helpful and I think they can put together what you need.
Please let me know if I am wrong...

Agreed. A follow up post on resolution would be good info for the hive. I took the time to have a few rods made up for the Scout conversion, but they won't help you. Right length, wrong tap.

I'm a few weeks out from making weld in split bungs in both 21 and 23mm, left and right . They'll be compatible with 3/4 ID DOM. We use to
pre build relay and tie rods but it always seemed whatever length you built was the one that didn't sell so now we can just inventory these
and you can weld them into any length tube you like. They will be a split style and I will bring in 1 1/4 ID dana 60 tie rod clamps. I've never been a fan of jam nuts. We tried them on our ARCA truck and they would loosen after every couple obstacles, 2 to three times an event. We ended up having to spot weld them to keep them secure. I know most people don't run their trucks that hard but better safe than sorry.

As a legitimate vendor, you know as well as I do that it is a little more complicated than that.

probably not much use to you over there but we use 70 series draglinks they are the correct length and the TRE taper fits 60 and 70 series pitman arms and 60 or 70 series steering arms on the swivel housings, the best part is we can buy them brand new over the counter from Toyota complete with TRE's on both ends for $50 NZD or about $33 USD

Maybe IPOR?

IPOR actually sells BudBuilt draglinks - though they might be a little further up the list in terms of priority than I was, they'd still have to call and order one from him and have it made.

I've bought stuff from IPOR and Cruiser Outfitters recently for my FJ60 PS conversions - both were great to deal with. I took pjohnson's advice and called Marlin Crawler and within 2 hours had a FedEx shipping confirmation in my email and the price was very good.

I really wanted to give Bud Built the business, especially since he is an incredibly nice guy and right here in my home state of NC - but I think 8 months of trying to give someone business is ridiculous, if you don't have the time or don't want to do it, it's ok to say that (listen up vendors) - but simply not replying is unacceptable in any business.

This is AWESOME, I've been looking everywhere for 21mm weld in bungs and no one seems to make/sell them.

What about jam nuts that can be safety wired?

Please keep me posted.

Thanks

It's much less stressful to be semi-legitimate. I think that would be our best bet. If there's one thing I've learned from Bernie...life doesn't have to be about responsibility ...pass it on

I ended up using this draglink on my 40, and I think since that time Kurt @cruiseroutfit has started carrying this non-US piece.
Kurt did help me by adding a custom taper to a 40 series TRE to accept a 60/70 series pass side TRE so that I could run that 70 series drag link. Clear as mud? Lots of boring details in my PS thread...

On a different, but related topic, are you still making the 55 draglinks w/ replacable/serviceable ends? I say someone in the 55 section asking...

If it's the same guy that called me, I left him a VM on a new standard link and my LAST reusable link assembly. Another slow-moving part not worth inventory-ing any more.

4 plus? Anything new on this front? About to do another fj60 power steering conversion here local and interested in both the 21 and 23 mm version. Need to do maint on my wagon as well so would upgrade at the same time.

I went ahead and made my own.
