White roof or no white roof

without the white roof, I think that the tricolor will work (silver top, gray middle, black bottom)
but adding the white .... lots of color. Especially if you have a roof rack (black).

well my plan was to do the white roof with the blue and rihno line the bottom, if you want i can put up some pictures of my cruiser

any pics with tan LC and white roof?

There are a few white roofed red 60's in my area that I see all the time. Looks cool to me. Gives it that expedition look and probably keeps it a little cooler inside.

For heat purposes, a little (ok, a lot) more involved, but anyone consider doing a radiant barrier paint on the underside of the roof metal, under the headliner?...or a relective foil-type liner.....think building roof material.

Mine is dark gray, in Texas, its freakin' hot, but the white roof just doesnt look right on the gray. But I dig the way RigOMortis' did his rig where the white on his roof can't be seen from the side. Thats the way to do it IMO.

Lots of color...does not sound bad to me, but then again, in a matter of a few weeks, I will forever be likened to Gerald Goode (with the bike). The recycling panda and the dolphin in the rainbow must have been stoner ideas (I'm so screwed):

I'm torn on a white roof with a sand/tan body. I like the idea, just don't think that I'll like the appearance. I've decided to make the floor of my roof rack white and leave the 60's roof color alone. I'm also thinking to suck the rack down as tight to the roof as reasonably possible in the hopes that it will at least partially act like those doubled "Safari Tops" occasionally seen on that other, less reliable brand.

On the roof insulation angle, I used the "Reflectex" foil covered bubble insulation from Lowe's on the under side of my Suburban's roof. The day that I put it in was a hot one and the insulation was good for about 20*f difference in under-roof surface temperature. If you do this, use upholstery shop grade or better headliner glue. Anything less won't last.
I fully plan to do the same in the 60 if/when the HL ever comes out.

ok...thanks for the tan#white pics... I have some body work to fix on roof...then it may go white.

sweet Elbert, make sure you post pics

As most of you going to white roofs are concerned, painting and sanding the rain gutter bead looks like a task. I painted my roof next to a body shop, and the shop manager gave me a tube of drip-check sealer by 3m specifically made for this purpose. I just cleaned my existing gutter, then laid down a bead over it and smoothed it out like caulk with my finger. Wait a few hours, and then painted over it. Sunlight and grease resistant iirc 3m said.

I will, most likely will not happen until sometime late in the summer....gotta get that "cool" rear bumper with spare tire mount first.

My factory green and clear coat needed some help. I decided to go with white for the roof on my j100.

I'm planning on a white roof when I eventually get to the point of being able to do the OD green paint on my 62.

I have a blue 60 trail rig. The roof was peeling and starting to rust. I sanded the rust spots down to bare metal and rolled on Rust Bullet. It’s a white-ish sliver and looks awesome from 10 feet away.

I know that Rust Bullet is better at dealing with UV than POR-15, but that has been a problem for most moisture curing polyurethane paints. How long has it been on there & how is it holding up?
