I have a 2 bbl Holley with a 2 stage power valve. I get 13 around town and 14 on the road.

I'm no mechanic and right now I'm getting around 11 in town. I'm running BF MudTerrains 33/10.5 with 4" rough country lift. A guy I talked with at a local gas station told me that using the 2 barrel Rodchester, that I might as well be pouring gas on to the road . He suggested I get a Waber 32/32 or I believe that is what he called it.

11 miles to the gallon...

A 32/36 carb is significantly smaller CFM and will lean out the 2F, but you will likely be disappointed if it is not tuned perfect, and, if you are not willing to go to Carburetor College, I would stick to what you have, and pick up a cheap daily driver.

This is coming from a guy who has lived Land Cruisers for 29 years...

EFI with GM stuff...

Best MPG and FJ40 2F engine in the same sentence.

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

I recall FJ40Jim mentioned a 78 Aisan is the most fuel efficient 2F carb and he says 75-76 Aisan’s have the most power potential. Put a Japanese work of art on that engine.

I have a 2bbl Holley and a 5 speed and 31's. Best mpg I ever got was about 14, but I agree with Poser that 11 is a more realistic day-to-day figure regardless of the carb. A bigger factor is how much lead you have in your right foot, and how often you are having to shift into lower gears.

Oh God I am getting 15 in town with 33', a Man-A-Fre engine headers and a Weber. Guess since i wear flip flops i don't have a lead foot.

What hasn't been said is that virtually anything will beat the Rochester for fuel economy. IOW, there's nowhere to go but up.

Mark is right as usual. I ran Rochester carbs for a few years and could never find a happy medium between milage and performance on my 2F. Jim C rebuilt my stock carb and it has worked flawlessly for over 10 years. My 2F is completely desmogged, I make sure tire pressure is right and drive like a grandma. Doing this gets me an average of 13mpg on 35s in town, does slightly better on the freeway. Never got better than 10mpg with a Rochester. Good luck! :)

Yeah, the ol Rodchester does run good for what it is. the PO had it on there and it doesn't even have a choke on it but it always starts up and runs GREAT. Guess I just need to use some ol "COW BOY LOGIC : IF IT AN'T BROKE DON'T TRY AND FIX IT".

Yeah that's basically what the dude at the gas station said (kinda hurt my feelings) :frown:
But what I'm hearing here, he must be correct.

If you do decide to get “radical” and change carbs. You could call the carb guru who chimed in on your thread
—>65swb45. He is Mark’s Off Road, he’d have a flawless recrafted Aisan fuel management device you could add atop your TEQ manifold.

I am flattered Mark! But I will have to get you a better picture, an 'after' picture, to go with my name.
