Finally got around to doing the water pump. Also replaced the thermostat, all hoses and clamps! Used the Permatex ultra grey to seal it up. Also talked to Jim C. the other day. Carb should be in next week.
Moving along.

Today saw more progress. Got most of the block on the drivers side scrubbed clean. Also mounted up the Power Steering Pump with it's freshly painted pulley. Sure looks better than the old tired one that came off of there!

I also sealed up my upper EGR inlet. I did not have access to a welder at my house so I went the alternate route. I cut the pipe off, then I found a bolt that was a tight fit. It actually cut some threads as it went in. I backed it back out and gooped up the threads real good with the leftover RTV from the water pump and reinstalled. Once it was in good, I cleaned up the excess squeeze out and went around the joint with a healthy bead of JB Weld.
Not the best solution, but I doubt that sucker is coming out. Plus it looks pretty good too. Then I reinstalled the unit with the new gasket I got form SOR.

Note that shiny new carb isolator above :)

Looking good!!

I dropped my alternator off at the shop yesterday. The power stud broke off when I pulled it off the truck a while back so that needed to be replaced. I figured while it was off the truck, I should have it gone through to hopefully save a headache down the road. There is a local shop that specializes in starters and alternators. I have been dealing with them for years. They have probably done five or six alternators over the years and they did the starter on my 62 when I had it. Never had their work fail on me. Nice to have a friendly dependable local shop you trust.
They called around lunch today and said it was ready. Talk about service!
good thing I dropped it off they said. Brushes were about shot and contacts were real brittle. They replaced all internals including bearings, fixed the power stud, cleaned and painted good as new! all for $85

Also went to NAPA today and got my power steering hose. They had to order the pressure hose. I wanted OEM Toyota but seeing that this project has turned out more than $1000 over budget (welcome to Landcruisers), I am going to Napa on this one. They did have the cut-to-fit return line in store though so I picked that up. It was enough to do both lower hoses. Oh, and I did more cleaning. Got the power steering box cleaned and painted up. Note, paint is still wet. Happy to have my new hoses. More piece of mind.

Blocked off lower EGR today using the Jim C. plate. Real quality piece!

Got that beautiful alternator mounted up today. Of course I painted all associated brackets first. Also painted smog pump bracket and installed the Jim C. pulley. Once again pleased with his products.

Decided to abandon the cheap little auto parts store hose clamps on the PSP hoses and clean up the old OEM ones for reuse. They seem much more stout.

Didn't know if I'd ever figure out where all this stuff went, but it's not so bad once you get in there and just start doing it.

Got an email this afternoon from UPS. It is a tracking# for my Carb! It's coming home! If I could kick up my heels in excitement I would, but I'm too fat. Oh well in the mean time, gotta get this oil pan off and replace the gasket. All the bolts are out but nothing. Thinks to this site sucking away my life hour by hour, I know now what to do. Off to the hardware store tomorrow to get a heat gun. No harbor freight though. I got a Lowes gift card I've been hanging on to since Christmas.
Have a feeling it's about to get real! More time in the garage, less time on here showing pics of my engine bay.

Forgot to mention, I got all my belts on and I cleaned up the driver's side wheel well where all the leaky power steering fluid and gunk had accumulated over the years. Painted everything up real nice.

Also did the steering rod cover and everything else over there. :)

Mate that is one smick engine bay and under body :)

The isolator is new and sits just as it came from Specter. It is my understanding from what I've read on here that this is the way it installs, no additional gaskets needed. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Just make sure your intake manifold is clean and free of old material, put the isolator on and bolt the carb directly to it. The gasket looks paper, but it is made onto the isolator and feels more like a slick plastic-like material.

BTW, thanks for the kind words on the engine bay, made me pull up a pic from when I started and realize just how bad it was!! I Lot of time has gone into tidying up in there. my OCD really went into overdrive. If I had it to do over again, I would probably just yank the motor out. Life would have been a lot simpler.

Yuck!!

In other news…

My Roundeyes arrived today and I'm on the list for a beautiful new headlight harness from slcfj62!
My future is looking bright!

And as promised, I went and gots me a heat gun today :)

Oh Happy days are near! My Carb arrived from Jim today!! It was gone 67 days, not the quickest alternative, but they say… Good things come to those who wait. (and pay)
I feel like I really made a good choice in having this thing rebuilt and done right.
Here she is :)

Stuck it on the truck - mainly to keep it safe, it will probably take a dew days to get around to hooking it up. Really helps fill up that empty space in the engine bay.

Also mounted my Roundeyes and painted and mounted the stone guards. I think they look sweet!

Started routing the vacuum lines the day the site goes down for maintenance. Figures. I got some of it done though. Today NAPA called and said my power steering pressure hose came in! I went after work to pick it up. Not liking the space-aged heat shield bag thingy that the aftermarket hose comes with, I was able to slip off the OEM one from the old hose. Soaked it in Simple Green and scrubbed it up ( a few days ago) It is now dry and looks pretty darn good. It took a little work to slip it on the new hose without splitting it, but I was able to get it on there. Now she's mounted up and work can continue!

Yes… I have been busy making brackets to hold the various vacuum components. While picking up my hose today I was also able to find a generic upper thermostat housing hose to replace the old one. Think that was the final hose to replace. Tried a straight piece, but it kinked to bad. This one was about an inch long on one side, but the bend was perfect! Cut it down and we're good to go!

Here is some more bracketry for your viewing pleasure.

And.. I almost forgot! This Beautiful piece showed up today! My very own stainless tray. Man, this thing is beautiful! A real work of art. One aftermarket item that far exceeds OEM Toyota. I recommend this to everyone! and I haven't even installed it yet.

Work is on hold again. Fell Saturday and broke my elbow. Dangit I was so close :(

Did find a pic on my old phone of the day I bought the 60. This was the first stop on the way home.

Whered you get those stone guards for your headlights? And how do they mount up?

Got them from Moss Motors. They are a Brittish car supplier. $12.95 on their website! I believe it is item 222-100. They only come in chrome. I painted mine black. They just mount using little clips that use the same screw that holds the headlight ring on. 10 minute install.
