Looking good dude.. Yeah the PSP is a bitch, I ended up finding a good one at my local PnP and pulled it and the bracket because of how much of a bitch it was trying to get mine off. Paid a little more because I bought the bracket but oh well, made the swap easy for me.

For the PSP hoses, dont worry I think I got something like 8' of hose for like $15 from NAPA, just standard hose that you buy at length. Mine ended up being fine so I never replaced but have the hose for the day when it is needed.

Don't know if you have it already but look at the link in my sig, it has the 60 desmog "manual" in there and it was my bible when I did it. And it is worth it to just keep the Smog pump aside and go with a JimC pulley!

Thanks man. Useful advise. I will defiantly be looking at your desmog info! I have read the desmog thread - all of it. Lots of info to filter through. I got a couple of guys semi-local (within a couple of 100 miles) that I may rely on too "copy" if it gets too hairy.
I have the Jim C. Pulley ready to go in! :)

The desmog document (actually called How to Desmog a 60) is a great walk-through with images and all. If there is one piece of advice I can give on the desmog, get yourself a nice sharp exacto knife. When removing the old lines just split the end and pull off the tube. Makes life much easier...

Oh and be VERY CAREFUL with the BVSV's on the t-stat housing. The nipples are incredibly brittle after 20+yrs again this is where the exacto comes in handy!

A great read for sure! I went to the garage and yanked most of the vacuum lines. X-acto knife was a great idea. No breakage of nipples! No one likes broken nipples! Now the fun continues.

For your 60's sake, please take these off ASAP. A PO put them on mine and a couple weeks after I got my 60, I was backing out of my driveway and hit a tree. This is the damage done by the "tail light guards" at 5 MPH. All they are are damage multipliers.

BTW, lest you think I'm exaggerating how slowly I was backing out because of the damage done to the bumper, that bumper is all of 1/16" thick. Why the PO welded it on there is beyond me, but it makes a great can opener.

Thanks! I like the guards. I had them on my 62 years ago, bought them after I backed into the corner of the garage and busted my lens. I knew immediately after buying the 60, I'd be ordering a new set. They are nice quality and I like the way they look. Kinda a pain to mount due to lack of instructions and having to drill for them. Just take your time and they turn out just fine!

Took a break from the desmog to recover the driver's seat. I bought a good seat bottom fabric from the passenger side seat here on the for sale section. I patched a small hole in the vinyl and put it on my driver's seat. Fixed the foam while I was in there. Looks much better! We'll see how long it holds up.
New one has a small stain on it, but looks better than ripped up fabric. I do not enjoy upholstery work.

Now back to the engine…..

A small Victory tonight! I got the Union fittings out of the block!! I wasn't going to attempt them, just cap them off but seeing as the dreaded rear one broke at the threads, I wasn't sure what to do. Studied on welding it up, but that seemed like a sloppy solution and hard to get at that.
I was at Home Depot this afternoon and it struck my brain to pick up a deep well 17 socket since I didn't have one and give that a try. I got a 12 point socket. Turned out to be the best $3.26 I have spent in a long time. After dinner I went to the garage just to gig it a try - not being very optimistic. I put the socket on my breaker bar and went at the broke rear fitting first since it was already F-ed up. With very little force, it started to turn. I was shocked! Something actually went right!
The following 5 were just as easy. All out in less than 10 minutes! Beautiful Jim C. plugs back in their place! Think I just earned a beer!

Dreaded rear fitting!!

Very nice dude!!! I still have my airrail sitting on there waiting to be replaced by the JimC plugs (which I have). What model number is the socket you grabbed because I need to get mine done soon and figure I need a project that is a quick and easy one.

Also, are the fittings two separate pieces for the rail? It looks like you were able to unscrew the rail from the fittings? I remember looking at mine but thought they were all one piece.. Would make things so much easier as I thought I was going to have to hack the pipes to get a long socket like that on or do JimC's recommendation of using a crows foot in that corner.

Fittings on the rail screw into the union fittings on the block, The union fittings themselves are one piece.
Here you go, hope this helps!

Picked up some loctite while I was out today. Man…That stuff is crazy expensive!

Mate nice looking cruiser, good write up

Sweet! Thanks for the pics, soon as it warms up I know what I am doing! I was able to find a Kobalt brand one that is the exact same so grabbed that yesterday.

Got my carb and dizzy pulled and sent off to Jim C. for the rebuild!!
Now we wait. In the mean time I will work on more scrubbing of the engine.
I have a long of list of parts to order. New carb insulator since broke apart in my hands
when taking it off. Power steering pressure hose. Radiator hoses, and some misc parts
to replace while I'm in there. Also think I'll do the water pump and thermostat since I'm down to
it and it don't look like it has ever been off. I'd hate to do all this work just to have that fail
after reassembly. Slowly moving forward!

Thought I would look up my old Cruiser and see how things were coming with it. Was surprised to see it had changed hands but understand sacrifices. It looks like you are having a great time with it and I am happy for you.
You have done a lot of work and it is looking GREAT! I'll throw in another pic I had from my hunting days down here. Not sure why she was so dusty inside :hhmm: Sure did LOVE this rig and had big Ideas for it but too many other projects and not enough time / money. Congrats!!!

Cool! Never thought I'd hear from another owner. Yes, cruiser is in good hands and well loved. Can't wait to get her back on the road. Especially since I haven't driven it but around 1,500miles since purchase. This is one solid truck. Were you the second owner? How long did you own her & did you ever have any major issues or service preformed? If you don't mind sharing. :)

Never mind, just looked up your ad from when you sold it. ;)

Pretty excited…. Got an email from Jim today. My carb got there safe and is in work! Still a couple of weeks out but still exciting news. While I pass the time, I noticed I never posted my camper pics in my thread. I have a couple of shots in the camping section, but I like the pics and it is the last outing I took the Cruiser on before teardown in November. So while I long for my rig back on the road and spring days ahead. Here's my last trip.

Yes, I own the camper. It is a 1986 13' Fiberglass Uhaul. Manufactured by the Uhaul company 1985-1986 rented until 1990 then sold off to the public. Approx. 2000 13' units made around 200 16' units made. I've owned it since 2003. It weighs 1300 lbs dry with a 200 lb tounge. Gets looks everywhere I go - especially hooked to my 60!
Number one question I get asked… "Did you rent that?"

I saw your truck on another thread and found my here! I love the looks and the camper. Do you happen to know the manufacturer of the brush bar? I've been looking for something like that for a while now. Also, what is the brand of floor mats you're running?

Cheers

Thanks! Don't know who made it. Bought it used off Ebay. No name anywhere on it.
The mats are called Floor Armor. Bought them at Oriley for like $35 for front and rear.
I really Like them.

I'm diggin on that camper
