What a mess. But it’s progress.
Pro-tip… the coolant lines that make a smile under the front of the timing chain cover… even if you THINK the system is empty of coolant… there’s a WHOLE BUNCH more in the bottom, there. *and it doesn’t taste good.

We did get the beautiful FJ62 90 amp alternator installed (from @ToyotaMatt) and then of course took it out when we realized we needed to replace those bottom coolant hoses.

Gotta get some generic coolant hose from the parts store this evening so we can put all of this back together tomorrow…

,
i can see you used a white gloves approach installing your Sparky Nice NipponDenso there , NOT a Scratch on it

- unlike most i have seen post-install look as if they have been dragged though a Barb Wire Fence more then once ?

- do u have any thoughts or plans on the above double-heater pipes assy. ?

- mine on my girl the GHOST looked , lets just say age and time so-so normal on the outside , but after replacing one of the aftermarket oil soaked coolant hoses on the rear section of it , i realized this might be and could in-fact be a slightly longer term routine maintenance replacement ritual parts , due the garbage and fluffy scale stuff inside , much like the wide range 3FE thermostat housings topic i have dove deep into , and have a greater understanding of as a whole now ...

- also , i have created a new , updated , and indeed unique HEAVY DUTY Tough as Nails 4 Bolt Thermostat Housings Hardware Assembly KIT , one STRONG lesson i have taken away from my overall interest in all thermostat housings ANYTHING Land Cruiser , is TOYOTA's current part #'s for both the long 4 housing to housing 12mm HEX bolts , also the 2 14mm HEX block-face bolts simply SUCKS to no end and is SAD old outdated metallurgy technology period !

- so i set out a wile back along with my long list of other wide range OEM over-engineering parts and also needed simple improvement Crusades and Quest's to make this annoying problem simply go away , or at least give a service life that far far exceeds the current offerings ....

- This is the foundation and mission statement at it's core roots level , of my new primary goal in my Professional Mechanical Artisan goals of ANY part or KIT-FORM of Land Cruiser Parts that meet my strict criteria to be in-fact labeled under my Exclusive in-house SNOW VERSION Brand Land Cruiser parts offering line-up ...

- or : HEAVY DUTY TOUGH as NAILS for short :)

- This new 100% made in JAPAN-Spec. hardware kit below , defines all the above very well as a example of what to expect under the new banner i march to and drum beat i turn my OEM wrench to Daily it my Skunk-Works Laboratory ...

- the main housing 12mm hex bolts are a DOUBLE SEMS washer type #7 Mark head , and have highest possible salt spray rated plating i could find that also met the other criteria too , so we are a mush stronger JIS # 7 mark the the CHEEZE Toyota offers up , we have the additional flat washer to better spread the torque yield pressure across a wider flat surface evenly , and our Violet Blue Silver Zinc Plating will outlast the simple ghetto-grade hot dipped galvanized you have now from the dealer , lastly these housing bolts i have Kustom made to my SNOW VERSION spec. are in-fact the exact same length as the oem original ones , i could not find any comparable product out there that met this spec. , along with the recipe of plating i spec'd , so Kustom manufacture was required and why on that ...

- the 2 BLOCK face 14mm HEX bolts follow in Lock-Step the above on every way , except i got lucky in the fact i could now provide them in a even greater strength class of JIS #8 mark head ....

Put it all back together this afternoon. I’ll spare some of the time-intensive details.

I’ll also insist that everyone buy this self-burping funnel for coolant. My system was eeeeeempty and @SkeeLo22 brought the magic funnel that allowed the system to get filled with ~14.5 quarts of the red stuff with ZERO air bubbles…

Took her for a test drive, no leaks, alternator is charging great… I measured battery voltage when I was done with my test @ 12.79… we’ll see what it is tomorrow morning after sitting for 12 hrs 🙏🏾

Been noticing a pretty significant WHOOOSSHHHH, when I open the gas cap, along with some bubbling noises when I shut the rig off, and possibly related, 7-8 cranks before the rig hit-starts (compared to 3-4 cold)…

I’ve read my share and feel like I may need to address the charcoal canister, maybe check/replace my vent tubes with the kit that @cruisermatt has on his site… maybe a drill a hole in my gas cap…

But after taking a look at my gas cap and considering it’s likely age… step 1 for me was ordering a new gas cap from @ToyotaMatt which arrived safe and sound last week and I just got around to “installing” it…

I’ll report back if that fixes the issue before I go down this rabbit hole…

Still have a little whoosh but it’s better…

I’ve been driving her for the last 10 days through Western North Carolina at our property and it’s been pretty great… we’re taking kayak “lessons” and are planning on spending some extra time up here…

I used the GPS and some math to figure out I maaaaay be hitting 14-15 mpgs which I’ll admit was unexpected.

The AC does great even with these 90-100 degree days, been zero hiccups and it’s been good…

I will say that there are some things that I find myself needing that I don’t have in the 62, which may ultimately lead me to listing her for sale…

I find myself wishing I had a truck… lately it would be very useful.

I am making this 2 hrs and 40 min trip back and forth to our cabin a bunch, and while the 62 handles it very well, its 100% Toyota drivetrain (3FE and H55) is kinda slow. And that’s not a surprising thing with 145 hp from the factory 🤣

I’d love to LS swap this guy… but in its current form, it’s just too nice of a version of Toyota parts to do that, I think… I feel like I’d be better off finding a situation where there was a 60/62 with no drivetrain if I were to do that…

We’ll see… may be listing it in the Classifieds… plus I have 3 x FJ40s that need my attention!

If that’s the direction I go… and if anyone’s in the market for a Toyota through and through (except for the sweet BMW seats) FJ62 with everything working and ZERO rust… Hit me up!!

And then I give her a hand wash at home and realize I’m not quite finished… still have some things I wanna do, including enjoying the ride. It’s just about right where I want it…

I bit the bullet and went ahead and ordered a new dash pad from my local dealership (since they’re still available from Toyota new)… I actually was gonna order from City Racer but for some reason the “add to cart” button was missing on his site.

My current dash has a few cracks and while it doesn’t really bother me in the least, I figure while it’s still available, may as well… 🤷🏾‍♂️

Wish I could find a reasonably priced chrome grill setup… we’ll see!

I ran into the same problem the end of last week and realized he has it shut down until tomorrow or something later today.

Also giving this a shot...

I think if I'm gonna sell thing in the next 3 months or the next 3 years, since everything else is in SUCH good shape by either being replaced or refurbished, I need to go ahead and fix some of the "small things" (apparently small things cost ~$600/piece these days)... because some of these things are just getting more expensive.

This is another small item on the very short list that could use an update...

She’s definitely cherry…

This’ll probably go in about 10 days from now, since I’ll be traveling in the 62 before then…

Gotta love some OEM Goodness…
