I bought a 95% original FJ40, and I'd like to keep it nearly original. Although, there are some things that I need to replace. I'd like the truck to be decent and enjoyable. Where do you guys find replacement parts? I'd like Toyota OEM, but I am fine with aftermarket parts if they look original. My truck is a 73 FJ40 and I'm having a difficult time finding parts for that year. For example, I need rear view mirrors, front turn signals, back door latch, etc. I noticed coolcruisers.com has a pretty good selection, but they don't have everything for my year. Do you guys know where I should go for parts? Good price/selection? Thanks

There are a couple vendors on here with parts that are super knowledgeable and have a lot of parts for many year models.
I've dealt with @65swb45 and he's great. @beno has a knack for sourcing all things landcruiser too. These two, as well as cityracer are vendors that i have used and been very satisfied with. Probably some more that i haven't had the pleasure of dealing with yet as well.
Good luck and good to hear another 40 staying stock!

CruiserOutfitters.com and a local Toyota dealership.

Thanks for the info! Yeah, stock is important to me. My neighbor is jealous of my truck, and I go to school with his kid who told me that he has been searching Craigslist frantically to get an FJ for himself. His son showed me a Craigslist post of an 80-something FJ with the entire bottom half covered in diamond plate, a very ugly black paint job (INCLUDING the classic white roof painted black), and the engine torn out. Overpriced at $9200 (it has been on Craigslist for months, won't sell). Call me a purist or whatever, but the point of the story is that I hate it when people destroy a beautiful truck.

One of the biggest challenges and time consumers for us late comers to the cruiser addiction, is sourcing parts. Especially, if you prefer origional parts.

The most affordable parts can be found here in classifieds, but you have to stay on top of it because stuff gets snatched up fast. Parts do fall through the cracks, so get good at searching and I guarantee you'll find stuff listed by busy members who forget to bump.

Have you made a list yet? I keep lists on my phone for my 71 and 76. I catagorize into NEED & want. Everytime I discover something I need, I get my phone out and type away.

I also have prioritized the tasks I need to accomplish in my notes app. I don't always follow it, I often get sidetracked. But if you haven't done so, make some lists and keep chipping away. It can be overwhelming if you don't take time to organize your plan of attack.

x2 Cruiser outfitters. Lightening fast shipping, competitive prices, knowledgeable staff, exceptional cust service

hOOter

  1. When I have plenty of time (2+ weeks to order, factory ship, pack, ship to me), know the part numbers, and want the best price, I use a dealership back East that I've been linked up with for a while now, free shipping, almost no markup, free cups and pens, etc.
  2. When I don't know part numbers...or need the order to be right the first time...and fast...Beno is as 'set it and forget it' as a Ronco oven.
  3. Otherwise, for great quality OE, or high quality aftermarket, I choose Cruiser Outfitters
  4. SOR does scratch the itch from time to time
  5. Used parts, many valuable vendors and shops here. Buy clean parts from California!! Luckily I'm close to Valley Hybrids, and Pardion has a good stash too, and the MUD classifieds are always there
Post some pictures of the new addition.

I've been buying reproduction parts from cruiser corps, and mechanical parts from a mix of the dealer and rockauto.

None of the parts listed a unique to 73. Their are a few one year only parts on the 73 but none you listed are in those parts. Side mirrors were used 68 to 76. Models. Round mirrors were three different sizes during that time but any should be close enough to work. Windshield mounted mirror were 68 thru 77 models. Rear hatch was used mid 65-74 models. Front turn signals were 70-74 models. Reverse light was 73 model only. Same with the blower knobs marked front or rear. Long transmission tunnel cover for three speed were 73 and small part of 74 model. Headrest were 73/74 and maybe 75. These are harder parts to locate if you need them.

Some parts are hard to find for my year. For example, 1973 front blinkers are different than 1975+.

Here are some pics! 73 FJ40 LandCruiser

The lights you are talking about-for '69-'74 model years and direct Toyota replacements-are available from Cruiser Corp for $57.00 ea. as one example.Other places should have these and the other needed items as well.None of the items are rare parts.:meh:

Nice truck.I would replace the missing whip antenna and put a coon tail on that thing somewhere :hillbilly:

Do you have the reverse light that is missing in the picture? Think those turn signals are hard to find try finding the 61/62 dual sided turn signals or even just the lenses for those years. Even the amber reflectors for 68/69 models that mount on the apron. Most have faded white.

You have a nice cruiser. Is the paint original? Looks like it.

Your headlight bezel is upside down, though.

The parts you have mentioned above are not hard to find, but the missing backup light lens could be (as Living in the Past notes it's a '73-only part).

Post a wanted-ad in the classifieds section here. Browse eBay. Compared to many 40s, you have a cream puff that is not missing much at all. You've got it made!

Both very good years, and nice pairing :-).
